Should you teach kids that their Christmas presents come from Santa?

I say no.

I got a letter from the headmistress of our kids primary school many moons a go telling me that my kids were upsetting their class mates by telling them santa was their parents .

Kids - Magical : sounds like a good match to me. I vote Yes to Santa.

Kids get taught a lot worse than that, in school and out.

I remember a hilarious episode of "The Likely Lads" where Bob recalls being very upset at the age of nine because Terry had told him "Presents are cancelled this year, as Santa has been gored to death*** by one of his reindeer"

Dont worry i am quite laid back ,my youngest grandkids believe in santa so i wont spoil it for them its their parents that have the control over them not i ,i am happy to go along with it .

No, I haven't been ruffling feathers either but I was asked a few probing questions by the youngest of my brother's brood.

It does strike me though that invoking Santa isn't all magic of childhood nonsense. I recall a very real childhood disquiet about the naughty/nice ledger kept by the supposedly omnipresent and capricious fat man in red - like a white haired Big Brother.

Go listen to the lyrics of "Santa Claus is coming to town" - that's dark stuff!

I also much prefer the idea of teaching kids that we have a tradition of giving gifts at Christmas and that people buy them presents because they love them rather than invoking some supernatural entity as the source of the gifts and then expecting a confused 7 year old to thank people for the things that Santa supplied.

Ahh yes, trouble with conspiracy theory, it's an uphill battle to compete with scientifically proven, uncontroversial mathematical formula to back up the facts that confirms it can never happen as: .....................................................instantly crushing his bones and organs and reducing him to a quivering blob of pink goo. (perhaps).

 

 

ohhh and can I offer up a correction for you: Think yourself lucky you weren't all burnt at the stake for HEARSAY !
