Never a poor bookie and undertakers wont run out of work either!

As to betting i would ban these online type ones immediatly theyre not that much "fun" when the bailiffs are knocking when you've spent the rent! At least with bookies you have to actually go there!

Never been in a bookies probably never will ,nearest we get to gambling is me buying the mrs a scratch card or lottery ticket

I can remember back in the fifties (when owning a car was still unusual for a "normal" family), my Dad always used to say, "You won't see a bookie on a bike"

It is indeed a mugs game: fast forward to the seventies, my takehome money at the time approx £50 per week - we had a painter at work who was totally addicted to the gee-gees, he'd often come back to the job after lunch with £2,000 in his pocket - it was always gone again by home time.

I used to have the occasional flutter but stopped after the 1983 Derby - I'd picked a forecast with Teenoso and Carlingford Castle but couldn't find a betting shop - I kicked the radio across the floor after listening to the race and have never bet on the horses since.

Yes it was unusual to own a car even more to drive it ,i remember on the few days we had on holiday or visited inlaws as the car drove off there was a square of dust ,stones and litter (very little litter back then ) where the car stood. His first car was a ford ? Van which he installed windows in to avoid some tax or other?

Next door had a citreon DS and he took us kids to heathrow to watch the planes from the roof of a building in the air port at night, exiting times back then!

Buying a scratch card is gambling you see them peeling them Off in the supermarket mugs game .And of course there Is the lottery another form of gambling and then all the tv competitions they keep ramming down peoples necks it’s all gambling in different  forms .It’s all to do with odds your chance of winning that’s the trick with gambling .If you get inside information then it’s a completely different ball game and poor bookies there is many of them at the moment because of Covid 19 .they have no work .And yes my horse is running tonight at Southwell in 18.45  would I tell you to back him ...........

Poor bookies hahahahaha

Scratchcards and the lottery have one good factor a set amount goes to charity ,do bookies give 12% of their takings to charity?

PS there is no 'trick' to gambling thats why its called gambling!

Bookies pay a Levy which is used to support Race courses, Dog tracks & many charities like the Injured jockey's fund, Jack Berry House & many other horse racing related causes.

This includes Hills, Ladbrooks etc Including the "On Track, Private Bookmakers". Prime Pitches on track cost an arm & a leg!! (The back pitches generally offer better odds to punters to try & nick business from the better, more prominent pitches)

All,

"Scrarchcards" - I remember as a 10 - 12 year old delivery boy for the printing trade I sold "punch cards". Can't remember much about them - were punch cards popular in England? You could buy the whole card and sell the spots or you could buy just a spot from one in my back pocket.  Seems to me a spot from the one I carried was a nickel. I was only allowed to handle about a $1.00 - anything bigger the "office" sent someone out
