  1. Very interesting indeed! I used to sea fish a lot and would always use two hooks on any ledger rig I made but the thought never once crossed my mind for coarse fishing. I'm going to guess that many others will have the same revelation on reading this thread. I don't think I'll be using a 2 hook rig any time soon, just find it strange that I never even considered it when it was standard practice for my sea fishing.
  2. I personally have only really used natural baits in all of my fishing but I must admit the last time I popped into the tackle shop I picked up a pack of artificial corn. Will be giving it a go in the new year and hoping for some good results. I have no confidence from personal experience but that's because I haven't used it or caught with it yet. From what I've read they don't hinder catching at all and like the others have said are good to combat smaller untargetted species. Also, if Budgie can catch Tench like those on artificial corn then there can't be anything wrong with them at all
  3. That first one is brilliant. Commitment to the cause there! I've seen people regularly fail at parking in a space twice the length of their car
  4. What those terms mean to me in my fishing: Groundbait is something I mix together to make a binding substance that I either throw in as a ball when I'm float fishing or moulded onto a feeder. Whereas loose feed to me means something I can pick up as it is, be it pellets, sweetcorn, maggots or something similar and just throw it in by hand around the float (not always the same as the hookbait but usually). I hope that makes sense.
  5. Haha, that's right up a mate of mines street!
  6. That's one hell of a fish. Sounds like it went to the right man. A friend of mine caught a 3lber and that seemed huge!
  7. Signed it. A beach down my way was closed once for a few years for construction work that ceased and now the place is left in a state. A lot of people missed out on fishing down there while it was closed.
  8. Thanks for the continued rod advice guys, it's all good stuff. I live in a town called St.Austell. I might be wrong but I think most of the bigger rivers round here are tidal and probably don't have coarse fish in them. I could be wrong though. There are lots of small leats etc around that have the odd small trout in but they're not too appealing. I've never really done much river research to be honest, hopefully you've got some info to shock me
  9. Not really an option for an every day kinda place to go. We're looking at 70 miles plus from where I live. I'll go one day and try my hand at a bit of river fishing but I'll be sticking to the local stillwaters for now Thanks for putting me onto them though.
  10. Haha, I'm exactly the same when it comes to supermarkets, well most shopping really. In, grab, pay, out. The only shop I spend any considerable time in is the local tackle shop. It's ridiculous how early all of the Christmas bits come into the shops though. Does it get earlier every year or does it just seem that way?
  11. Looks like a nice little pond to have to yourself, would make for a pleasant afternoons fishing for sure. Welcome to the site, hope you land one of the big ones. Might have to up your tackle strength?
  12. Thanks for the insight guys. I'll be checking out the recommended rods throughout the day as I'm off work through illness. It does look like I'm going to be leaving the 11-13' one though for the reasons mentioned, unless I use it just as 11'. @teme_man: I don't necessarily favour stillwater bream fishing, It's just I don't really have a suitable rod for that type of fishing yet as I've not been doing it long and it's a fish I like to target only on certain waters I've not heard of any good rivers to fish around my way so haven't even tried it yet.
  13. Hello all, Just wondering if anyone on here has spent any time using the rod in the topic title. I currently don't have a quiver tip capable rod. I'm in the market for one and was hoping the fishing gurus on here could point me in the right direction. I'm looking for a rod anywhere up to and maybe above £100. I'll mainly be using it to fish for bream, not especially large ones. Depending on venue the biggest in any of the lakes I fish is ~5lb (apparently). I'll be using it in other ways too i'm sure, my fishing varies a lot from day to day. Hope this is enough information to base an opinion on. So basically any advice welcome. Thanks in advance.
  14. I've just spent 3 weeks in Glasgow for work. Have been craving a fishing session the whole time so went out in the rain this afternoon back in Cornwall. Fished a pleasure lake for a bit of sport and had a great time. The first fish I hooked was a roach around the pound mark and the biggest fish of the session was a 9lb 2oz carp. Wont get to fish again for at least a fortnight so was nice to have some fast paced action to 'quench the thirst' as they say.
  15. In my short time of fishing I've tried a plethora of different knots with varied results. I mainly settle for a well lubricated five turn half blood knot and have found it to be very strong and rarely have any problems. For match lake fishing I prefer Guru QM1's in a size 14 or 12 but often go for barbless kamasans in other aspects of my fishing.
  16. There are a few waters like that around here but they're not a nice place to be. A friend of mine fishes there regularly for short 1-2 hour sessions. I went up with him a few weeks back just to watch and there were some teenagers sat on a rock chatting for 45mins or so, until the light started to fade and they started throwing rocks into the water not far from where we were sat, was a bit unnerving if I'm honest as they were 30feet above us. It would be a great little free venue for kids to learn if it wasn't frequented by the local scumbags and it wasn't as 'out of the way' as it is. Shame.
  17. Sounds like a nice days fishing, well done. I can't wait to pull out a bream that big. So far I've only managed to pull out Bream to the low end of 2lbs.
  18. I even get freaked out at dusk sometimes. My biggest fear is my own imagination I think. There is even a lake I don't like fishing at daytime because it freaks me out, can't explain why though. Odd.
  19. Just had to post that this sounds like brilliant fun. Out on a boat on the rivers fishing. Jealous, I am
  20. Brilliant advice guys. As I'm new to this coarse fishing lark I haven't been in many matches. Well, I've had many against my friends (we all started at roughly the same time) so it's good competition and fun but there's only a maximum of four of us. Together we have tried a few local lake matches against match anglers and they have been tough. We don't seem to have the 5 hour sustain that the pure match anglers had and would get up and go to each others pegs to chat etc. A few of them we haven't been too far off of the pace but sometimes they're in a different league. So all I can say is be prepared to have to go at it all guns blazing and I hope you fare well and get some great results
  21. Good work, that's a bigger carp than I've had on the method. I really only use it for bream on big waters though to be honest. Would be interesting to see what's said on this topic. I can't see it only being a small carp tactic personally but I'm no expert.
  22. Well done. Great river carp. Pretty good picture for a self taken phone one.
  23. I havn't done before now as I'm a new user. Only just realised I've had my 15th post so have changed it on the options. This is a test to see if it shows really. *edit* It worked */edit*
  24. I was hoping to edit my post but I don't seem to have the ability yet. Sorry for calling you 'Trigger', Tigger.
