  1. May not be too much help as they no longer sell them but harris used to do a copy call the mean bugsy. I have a few that like you use to chub. Maybe contact Harris asking of previous supplier or some one with more knowledge than me may already know ? Is a shame they got rid of the mean range as ALOT of them where great fish catchers.
  2. We use them at work Elton. Far from bomb proof and dont seem to like dust but they can take a good amount of abuse. As with alot of these type of phones I think its down to luck whether they survive a drop or not. For example I have dropped it from the top of a ladder, 3 meters or so, and it survived. However work colleges have had them fall from waist height and result in a broken screen. The best survival of such a phone was a fella that put it in the washing machine lol, after drying it out it continued to work but the screen was a little foggy. Not bad really
  3. As far as know they are all open to fish ?
  4. They are Savage Gear Slider Jig Heads however they seem to be a little fin on the ground now. I also use the range of glider jig heads from AGM. I like them as it allows me to work soft lures in a slightly different way. They seem to work really well with grubs too, accounting for alot of pike. Very simply mate, cast out and reel it back in varying the speed depending on the depth. If I get a hit but no hook up I will cast out again and jig it back slowly with hits coming on the drop. Jigging I find a great technique however to keep it up all day is very tiring. I find the fish will hit on both retrieves so use the easier technique to locate them and go from there
  5. Like a few others I spent the afternoon out enjoying the sun. Tried a different stretch to see how far the zander had spread, luckily I managed to answer that question with the capture of this little fella. Unlike my last Zander this one really wanted it and hit like a pike! However I was frustrated all day with finicky bites and this time the proof that they where fish, tailless kopyto's and not just debris. Forced to change lure due to having no more kopyto's I put a 3inch hammer shad on which got a bit of interest finally hooking up with this minuscule pike lol. A good sign though as they must be breeding. A fun day but I really need to find a way of converting the nips into hook ups. Not sure if going smaller may help, less to nip at, or go bigger and hope they wallop it.

    Mini Success!

Thanks folks Anderoo - Yes mate it was a canal. Going out of my way to track down some more waters to fish this year and just hope I find one that contains a few other predatory species like perch, pike and chub too. Was quite surprised after 4 hours and 5 miles I hadn't had a pike or perch on the bank.
  7. Decided I wanted to go and catch a Zander and to my surprise I managed to actually catch one on my first outing, well chuffed Caught using a 3inch white Kopyto on a 5g jighead A question for those who catch them regularly. I had ALOT of pulls and plucks while fishing which I put down to catching debris on the bottom, however, the bite from the fish was just like hitting abit of debris except this time it started pulling back once I had struck. Is this a "normal" type of bite ? Starting to think I may have missed a few bites but only time will really tell I guess.
  8. Trying to make the most of the end of the river season and have managed to land a few. The weather has been freezing but the fish dont seem to mind too much. Hope every one else has had a few
  9. I can vouch for the reels budgie is able to supply. I "abuse" mine by chucking great big pike around lol
  10. Not sure there would be enough people on here but its still part of the community spirit and can be accessed by all. What about organising "group buys". Bait, rods, reels, terminal tackle, line etc etc ..... On other forums we get together and purchase 10,20,30+ of certain items from a seller usually giving a decent discount for all. For example, the recent mini spomb thread. Get together contact the seller I reckon you could get them down on price Joel
  11. Got the dates booked Steve so providing nothing goes wrong I will be down this year
  12. Must haves probably not as any lure will catch if the fish are feeding but a few personal favourites of mine are: Rubber grub 2-3inches - Good for catching any predatory species and can be rigged various ways. 2.5" Kopyto Classic - Good for perch and pike, can be rigged to suit depth of water Yogi Jointed Fry - A small lure good for perch and chub but will also tempt the pike when they want something a little smaller. Spinner Bait 5-14g - Again can be fished at different depths aimed at the pike but perch will hit them. Bass Pro XPS Lazer Eye Nitro - Perch just seem to love this thing. As you can see from the above, I lure fish for the smaller species mainly. I like to catch anything and using smaller lures usually means you get at least one hit
  13. Managed to get out for the first time in ages, not the most successful but VERY enjoyable. Both caught on a 5inch silver spoon fish slow and deep. Not sure how big this perch was, over 2lb ? Quite shocked to have hooked it on such a large lure, but made the day.
  14. Happy Birthday Budgie. Have a good one mate.
  15. managed to get out and spend abit of time on the banks of the avon. Nice and warm but without the blazing sun. First stop a marina entry point. Carried on a little further finding some deeper weedy stretches. I wasn't disappointed. Note the single hooks, they seemed to work really well, only dropping 1 bite. Was getting a little dark when we started to head back, so decided to put on a tail dancer and see if I could find anything a little bigger. The perch still came though lol A few meters further; a slightly better hit. A plump little jack. One final cast back into the marina another feisty jack. All in all, a great evening and best of all spent it with my old man
  16. Just incase some people cant find it easy enough http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/special/election...tml/england.stm
  17. They will work mate and on the right gear will cast a decent distance once wet Not a hairy killer but here is one caught a "fluff" tied to a jig head. Weighing less than the 20grams but can cast a good 25 - 30 Meters
  18. I find the exage a great reel. Have got them in 1000, 2500 & 4000 for my lure rods. Haven't had a problem in over 3 seasons and the fighting drag comes in very hand, especially for the lighter outfit with a better fish on.
  19. Quite surprised about the lack of people using wire, but then I suppose if you ONLY want to catch perch then I can see why. I go fishing to catch anything that's biting so maybe looking at it from a different angle. However there is no doubting pike, and bigger ones, will for what ever reason actively hunt down the smaller lure. For example. Last year flicking out a small grub, sub 3inches, for perch and chub this old girl decided she was hungry. Landed using 10lb braid, a 15lb wire trace with my trusty spro UL rod. (apologies about the blood, was only a small single) A wire trace will put off the odd fish but I would rather one or two fish turn away than to miss out on the odd surprise that turns up. If anyone wants some great ready made traces contact Steve here. The lightest wire & smallest clips are just the ticket for the perch where pike are present.

    Photo Of The Day.

Nice lion fish, here are a few from my marine tank.
  21. Chub on lures are one of the best things about lure fishing, especially when using the right gear. They hit harder than any pike and will rip the rod out of your hand if you're not playing attention. Any small lure will catch them and have found small crank baits most successful followed by small spinners. Surface lures work well too but best fished on slower stretches of river otherwise you may get frustrated by them missing the lure.
  22. What sort of casting weight is your rod capable of ? Had great success with tiny crankbaits like the Yogi, they will also catch chub and pike Also fishing plastic lures, sub 4inch grubs and shads for example. Can be fishing on a jig head or weightless.
  23. You may be surprised, I know I was when I saw a pike of around 8lb be shocked / scared off by a good sized perch. The perch literally lit up and flared its dorsal fin. The pike quickly swam off in the other direction. Not sure if it where the sudden change in size of the perch or its aggressive stance but the pike really didnt like what it saw !
