  1. How about the leads with the dimples like a golf ball. Supposed to make the lead fly further, don't know if they work though. Alan try cornish lures or old mouldy both stock a large range of lead moulds, many of the leadhead moulds are imported from the states.
  2. Never tried it locally sar though there are very good numbers in the humber estuary and quite a few in brid bay/harbour.They are another one on my species list although I have had one in Ireland I suspect catching one locally would involve a large and sustained groundbaiting campaign.
  3. Cheers all! Is the best time dawn/dusk or actually through the night?

  5. Anybody had experiance catching Sea Trout (purely for sport)from the sea? Which flies ,spinners or plugs would work the best? We fish from a small boat and fishing into dark of through the night is not a problem.
  6. Apparently many of the deepwater fish we in the UK catch ie ling eject their stomach. There is an argument that says when the stomach is punctured the release of the stomach acids into the main gut cavity will kill the fish anyway. Perhaps someone could enlighten us on this subject but in the meantime I will continue to vent blown fish because even if they don't survive I view it's better to feed the fish on the ocean floor rather than the seagulls on the surface.
  7. Mitten crabs are in the Humber also they have a different shaped shell which incidently is very hard. The fur!! is on the crabs claws, hence the name mitten.
  8. I use 100lbs dynon 3000 as a shockleader when beach fishing for Tope which offers protection if a fish rolls up the leader destroying the usual nylon. Braid can also be usefull when fishing the kelp filled gulleys at close range , wouldn't recommend it for distance beach work though because as rockhopper suggests its not easy to cast with no stretch resulting in a great loss of distance.
  9. Been five weeks now since my last fag and to be honest it's been a lot easier than I thought. I'd reaced a stage were out of 40 per day I would enjoy one or maybe two of them the rest was just going through the motions if you know what I mean.Stopped eating the nicotine chewies a week ago which are a great help for the first couple of weeks. My only complaint is a series of colds/flu and now tonsilitus but that is a small price to pay (or coincidence) to be able leave on a fishing trip worrying more about bait, tactics etc rather than have I got a spare 20 in the bottom of my box another 20 hidden in the boat at least 20 more in my pocket and finally some more back in the car in case of emergencies or god forbid should I run out. Alan hope your recovery is going well I think you will be an insperation to many others reading these posts and proof if you really want to/have to stop you can. Anyway I've decided to get one of those new colour Garmin fishfinders with the money that is now building up fast.

Hello stranger- welcome to the board
  11. Its certainly not uncommon to catch cod 10 miles from the sea in the Humber and there was a 14lb pike at old hall a mark which is very close to the sea, it was after heavy rainfall though and the pike was stone dead.
  12. Exellent thread,I stopped 24hrs ago from 40per day keep it up Alan. Jaws aching from all that chewy already ,need to be able to breath again though and climb those bloody cliffs.

  14. I would go for a 4 stroke every time, I have a Honda 115 on my Warrior 175 and would NEVER go back to a two stroke. Just fill them up stright from the pump,no vibration, whisper quiet, and uses half the juice my Yamaha 80 2 stroke did and of course with the Honda five years warrenty.
  15. Runnels the mark just North of Hompton (park at holmpton lane end and walk north till the cliff drops)produced cod to 9lb+ at the weekend. While the winds in the SE try brid south pier ther was bass of 8.5lbss and 10.5lbs caught yesterday on squid. [ 21. November 2002, 09:27 PM: Message edited by: Topecatcher ]
  16. Sent letters to everywhere suggested without one reply other than to say my letter had been forwarded to somebody else.I just hope the beauracrats concerned aren't so buisy making the decicions so that when the deed is done they then take time out to read them.... But without plenty of support they will still believe we are the minority.
  17. Cheers Colin will do haven't seen him for a couple of months though. Heard he won a match on the south bank (humber) yesterday with 19 whiting and 5 cod.
  18. I've never snapped a rod during the cast before and I've been beachcasting regularly for nearly 30 years. Apart from non fishing accidents the only rod I have snapped whilst fishing was when I caught a big thornback on a carp rod from the beach, the top 18inch parted. (worth the crack)
  19. Cheers Alan, sorry for the delay I've been without a monitor for a while broke two of them in as many weeks. As for the Diawa (although more than twelve months old now)it snapped in the butt section just below the reinforced spigot during the cast with numerous witnesses. My local tackle shop kindly sent the rod back to Diawa where the rep agreed it should be replaced however he was overuled by some head guy who's name I cannot remember at the moment.I managed to obtain a direct number for the "head guy" and was told by him that the rod was not defective. Well why did it snap then? He replied for all he knew I could have been casting a pound of lead. This conversation went on for some time and I was rudely told if I wanted to take this matter further ie court I was welcome to do so. I did consider writing to the angling press but decided me against the advertising revenue of Diawa there would be no contest. Needless to say I was discusted with Diawas so called after sales service which is a shame because I still use an AWT and think they are exellent rods (even though I hate to praise one of there products) I just believe it was faulty.
  20. Wanted butt section for Diawa awt beachcaster. Mines snapped and although not twelve months old Diawa refused to renew it.
  21. The 525mag is an exellent reel for beachcasting, casts like a 6500 with the retrieve of a slosh. I've had two since their launch and have totally abused them including three of four seasons uptiding on the boat for Tope when the reels stay rigged up on the boat for six monthes at a time. They started to sound a bit rough at the start of this season so a tournament casting friend of mine serviced them and replaced three bearings now the're running sweet as a nut again. There was a story of some tackle dealers aquiring some penns very cheap off the docks if true there's every possibility these are "snide" reels because I've heard of anglers having serious problems with Penn reels. Having said that I don't think you will see the same tough quality build that was used on the old reels due to manufacturing costs and the fact noboby seems to over engineer anything these days.
  22. Eel section is a brilliant bait for Tope from the shore, mainly though due to the fact its probably THE only bait crabs leaves untouched. Try fishing a big mackerel bait off the beach and it lasts about five minutes where'as you can cast eel secttion out at low water and leave it out there till high tide if you wish. Having said that I still prefare mackerel from the boat where crabs arn't such a problem.
  23. Anybody tried the Holderness coast, E,Yorks for Tope a relatively new fishery with an average size of 40-50lbs and a biggest this year of 77lbs.All fish tagged and released with the shark 2000+ tags supplied by Sue + Jeri Drake, one fish was recaptured off Portugal unfortunately on a Spanish longline.
