  1. It does appear to work, but WD40 is not exactly the worlds most environmentally friendly substance which is good enough reason not to use it. Far better off using fish oils or similar if you want to spray baits.
  2. It's a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle that went out of fashion 6 months after it was bought and so got dumped. They're everywhere these days.
  3. Depends a bit on the wording of the ban. Is it a ban on cereal groundbait or just the word groundbait? I've always thought that if you loosefeed with a hookbait then that isn't groundbaiting provided the intention is the the fish to intercept the bait on the way down. If your intention is to create a carpet of food on the lake bed then that is groundbaiting (you're baiting the ground).
  4. Yes, Drayton Reservoir has to be completely drained to do necessary work on the dam & outflow pipe. The fish are to be moved to Naseby Resorvoir (subject to EA approval) and at 100,000lb will be the biggest mass fish move ever. Naseby is then going to be developed as a specimen water and Draycote will be restocked wth smaller carp and should reopen around April next year. [ 25. 5. You'd think after nearly 2500 posts I'd know how to not double post wouldn't you [ 25. August 2003, 02:29 PM: Message edited by: davidP ]
  6. The fines are low, but sadly that's nothing to do with the EA - it's the magistrates that hand down the sentences. The maximum is I think £2500 but no magistrate ever fines the maximum allowable in any case for any offence. Most will also have to pay costs as well which can nearly double the bill. One thing to be considered however is that it get's you a criminal record. This will effect things like credit ratings, insurance, job applications etc, and if you don't tell them you have a criminal record I believe it's an offence. [ 25. 7. Ziffy - I'd have thought with the new disability discrimination laws that any venue being awkward on the grounds of disability would be skating on very thin ice!
  8. I think what you've got there is a species of hawk moth, and quite possibly the UK's biggest moth - the Privet Hawk-moth (Sphinx ligustri). The head doesn't seem as dark as the photos I've found (could be because it was wet), but the red and black makes it pretty distinctive. Try these links : Linke 1 Link 2 Link 3
  9. Just a thought, but when driving a car you have to spot and react 'in a tiny time gap' to real-life hazards. If they give you ten seconds to click then in the real world you've already hit it and done a few thousands pounds worth of damage!
  10. The only place I can recall that did courses like this was Ian Heaps place which is in Wales somewhere I think. I certainly don't recall seeing any 'fishing camps' as such being advertised anywhere I afraid.
  11. Without joining a club I think the only way would be to pick a venue that has regular matches and then fish it as much as you possibly can and try and learn it. Also you'll need to attend as many matches as possible, not to fish but to watch and learn. Once you're confident you can catch regularly and well then that is the time to start entering the matches, but don't expect to make too much in your first year. There are very few anglers who even break even match fishing - for most it's an expensive way of going fishing!
  12. That's another name for MSBlast. Have a look at the Symantec description for how to fix it.
  13. Haribo Kiddies Mix Sainsburys (or Tesco) Chelsea Buns Doritos Dippas with a hint of Lime
  14. It could be that your machine is doing full memory checks each time it logs on. This can certainly slow things down if you have plenty of memory installed.
  15. 5 different Avon rods listed at Nimpopo. You'd do a lot worse than the John Wilson Avon rods produced by Masterline. This has I believe been the best selling rod the in UK by some considerable distance. There are a couple on the range now starting from about £45 up to £120 or so. They're 1.25lb test curve with twin top, some are variable length and some have multiple quiver tips as well.
  16. Sorry, can't see a link, photo or whatever so can't see the item you're talking about I'm afraid
  17. I live about 4 miles from Heathrow & the Thames is nearby!
  18. Does anbody know a site with a good clear explanation of what firewalls are & how they work? I was trying to explain to a non-technical person exactly what a firewall was as they were asking me if they needed to get one, and I found it surprisingly difficult to phrase it so he could understand any more than the very basics. As he's on a dial-up modem I told him that he probably didn't need one as he has decent anti-virus, but I think he wants to understand more before deciding. Thank you :
  19. My current employers (v.large medical insurance company) got hit with it Thursday afternoon knocking out all sales & customer support. So all Thursday afternoon & Friday everybody has been charging around trying to patch all servers & 2500+ PCs. Friday afternoon a raft of self-congratulatory e-mails appeared praising how well they'd done to limit the effects. They rather spoilt it however by stating they'd known about the problem since 16th July and had been thinking about what to do about it since then. Personally I'd sack whoever hadn't made a decision in 4 weeks thus allowing a known potential problem to become a genuine emergency!
  20. If it's the Subaru then my dealer told me my aircon was non-maintenance. A lot of the Jap imports have climate control however which is a slightly different matter.
  21. Yes. Only exception I could think of would be if you were oving them to a licenced fish farm or similar
  22. Bear in mind though that each knot is a potential weak point in the line so you'd need to consider that when chosing a breaking strain.
  23. I personally think that if you can avoid it you should - why take the risk? If however all else fails then the advice given is good. Step up the tackle to cope and don't be afraid to give the fish a good pull to try and get it out almost before it's realised what's going on.
  24. Varies. Some definitely are sterile (roach/bream usually are) but I think with a lot of the carp cross hybrids it's a bit hit & miss because the main species are very closely related i the first place. They definitely go through the spawning motions.
  25. Ah yes, Selkirk. I went there with John Wlson & Fred J Taylor, got appendicitis on the plane and spent the entire week in hospital. Never even got the rods unpacked Still remember the mossies though!
