  1. I have a pair of hyper loop barbel rods. For the money I cant fault them. I can see no problem using them for carp at a maximum of 40 - 50 yards range. Before the advent of distance casting took over the carp world, 1.75lb tc rods were the norm for carp angling. So unless your looking to cast to the horizon the barbel rods would suffice.
  2. The age old favourite.... spoons, cut off the handles drill both ends. Two split rings, a swivel and a treble hook.
  3. Thats River Severn anglers http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-11564284
  4. As pike are top of the food chain it means that there are relatively fewer of them in a water. So yes it means that takes are naturally less. Again there will be more smaller pike than large ones. There is no hard and fast short cut to catching larger pike. Even small pike can take large deadbaits. Generally deads do catch the bigger pike. Spratts for example has a reputation for taking large pike. I think that there is one golden rule to aid catching large pike. Only fish waters that are known to hold large pike. It then comes down to water craft and of course that old but absolute truth .....location location location.
  5. Budgie they dont look like shubinkins I know. My guess would be comets. there tails can vary from the norm to fantails. At the end of the day there all goldfish lol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shubunkin
  6. Had one for years. Mines ally not plastic so its probably one of the originals. Have only used it on the odd occasion and never found it to be particularly effective.
  7. Only took a few seconds on yell.com to find it. http://www.leekpetandfishingcenter-st13.co.uk/
  8. Firstly Specsavers is a franchise so each shop will have different practices. My experience of specsavers is that its a rip off. The optician tried her hardest to sell us varifocals. The dearst lens option. Despite us telling her that my wife suffers from Memiers disease, and that both vari and bi focals were not suitable for her. After a lot of discussion we settled on the glasses, only to find that the wrong prescription had been given to her. After a lot of discussion we eventually got our money back. We then found out that all she neede were reading glasses. The prescription was within the range sold by most chemists etc., over the counter.
  9. Errrrrr....... were paying for him to come here? then hes charging us? I fink mi brian urts
  10. I use the brown lids off coffee jars, which come in several sizes. The lids are cut from any thickish plastic I can find. The hinge is a cable tie and the release rod is welding rod.
  11. Its a case of checking all the boxes and removing those you dont want removed.
  12. On the small river I fish the chub wont tolerate feeders, in fact the splash from a small bomb can put them down. I normally fish mashed bread with flake on the hook. A lob is good as this can take good perch to.
  13. Managed to hook a bat in the mouth. It took my fly on the back cast one evening rudd fishing.
  14. http://www.willisworms.com/index.php?page=...rt&Itemid=3 Dendros are a woodland worm feeding mainly on leaf litter. Lobs are open ground worms feeding on rotting vegetable matter.
  15. I'm not sure about Scotland BUT its an offence to collect dead badgers from the roadside. Strange law I know.
  16. I hooked and lost a trout from a reservoir that is only canal fed. Its possible of course that it was released after being taken there as a live bait. Or it could have got there naturally. The canal that fed the reservoir is the Llangollen which in turn is fed from the River Dee.
  17. In the articles he writes for AT, it lists the tackle he uses, Always Okuma reels and Drennan rods. Sponsored??
  18. I read some thing the other day cant for the life of me remember where. There are problems in China new factories opening and loss of workers to these. As a consequence containers are either sitting on the dock side or are in transit. This has caused a break in supplies. Doesnt help us any getting the stuff we need, but explains why the shortages. I do agree that more should be sourced from within the UK.
  19. The canal might be closed to boat traffic. This could also affect angling. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/jul/14/l...ught?CMP=AFCYAH
  20. To make boilies you need egg in the mix. Its the egg that hardens as its boiled. Bread paste will just disintegrate if placed in boiling water.
  21. Maggots come in either sawdust or maize meal (flour), just a case of asking when buying. At the end of a days fishing remaining maggots are transfered to a plassie bag and into the freezer they go. Quick clean and simple.
  22. Wrenbury is in "Cheshire mere" country. No shortage of lakes and pools in this area. I cant see how the local country lanes will cope with the increased traffic. Border and Cudmore arent that far away. A few other commercials as well.
  23. My information is that that is incorrect at this time.
  24. Check it before you use it. Allow it to thaw then place in a bowl of water. It my just float as the freezing tends to draw moisture out of food.
  25. Sensor is quite stretchy so replacing it with flouro which isnt may and I say may cause you some problems as you get used to it. I've used sensor for years with a flouro hook link, and see no reason to change. Flouro is expensive so why waste money?
