  1. Look at the Peugeot 406 TDi Estate. Mine did around 50 to the gallon with a huge boot. A mate and I slept in mine on a Mulleting tour of Dorset a couple of year back. Tons of room for a 6' + sort of guy.
  2. This tread takes me back to the 70's and 'Ken Browns' in Bromley, Kent. A small shop that stoked a lot with loads of helpful advice. The shop closed year ago and I though I would not see Ken again . . then I noticed his name in the register at a club meeting a couple of months ago so went over and said hello. Now in his 80's he's fit and fine with a fine number of tails 'from the old days'. My local is A & I in Green Street Green, Orpington. Could do with a bit more stock, but a frendly service and always keen to help with the occasional cup of tea and I nomally find what I want. Worth a visit. Near work it's 'The Tackle Box', got everything for the Carp man but top dollar but coupled with excellent service, then there's 'Danson Angling' near Bexley who do better price wise. The store has expanded and one can take a age looking around and as always . . picking up and buying those few bits and pices that will come in handy !!
  3. Get well and up soon Tony. We'll be seeing you putting your best hip forward as you stride to Timsbury's outer reaches soon enough I hope.
  4. Hi Ken Seeing the pier again takes me back a few years. While I'm always told it can be good for Bass in late summer I never saw one caught about 1lb from the pier. Plenly of Mackerel, Horse Mackerel etc. But then I did not fish nights ! Perhaps a different story then. I use to fish near to the slipway, light float gear with Sandeel which was loads of fun . . unless a Seal popped up and ruined the fishing for 15 mins or so
  5. Guys My brother wants me to take him and his young son ( 10 ) sea fishing on the 10th. Thinking of fishing the eastern arm as is easy fishing into deep'ish water without having to worry about fast tide rips, easy parking, not to far to walk etc, etc. Planning to fish Lug, Squid. Anyone fished there lately, anything coming out? . . or any other suggestions for venues. I want to avoid beach fishing as I want the youngster to cast himself ( he's very small so will be limited to chucking a lead no more than 40 feet ).
  6. Back in the 70's i worked for Modern-Arms. The quality of some of their Fibreglass blanks were years ahead of their time, notably the 9' and 6' 6" Swimfeeder rods. Ok there were several which were less than avarage, a certain Tench rod endorsed by a TV angler for one, but many of the blanks were gems and almost as light as modern carbon. . . just a shame the two rods I bought from them have passed on ( land lord trapping then in the shed door did not help ). PS: Handles . . Sportsman . . .. go for cork.
  7. Thanks Snatcher for taking the time out to produce these reports, I always make a point of reading . . with the easy bit . . . 'enjoying' Would not mind having a go for those Mullet with an Avon rod ! Methinks it would be better to be afloat and get the fish into open water . . . . wow
  8. Five Bellies I has an email from a fellow Medway Mullet group member who advised that the Cod fishing on the Kent coast was better than it had been for years. Methinks it time I visited Deal pier for the first time in years !
  9. My grand parents lived in Caister on Sea in Norfolk, during the 30's through to 50's my grandfather thought a beach session was poor if he caught less than 6 Cod ( not Codling ). I have seen pictures of him with Cod over 20lbs plus several low doubles off the same tide! . . yes off the beach !! I'd even withstand the teeth of a Nor'Easter if the fishing was still like that
  10. Excellent Now where my cow? NO, don't answer that !!
  11. I saw these a few months ago and would use them to re-build a rod, performance is the only criteria. Yes they look like the rings on my 1970's Atlantic ABU''s which work and work well, the fact that these are deformable is wonderful. To many 'float' rods come with rings that are far to small and fragile, the single leg versions would be ideal. It is so sad to see the colour, badge, lable becoming so important. I was given a Carp mag a few days ago and reading the articles says it all, each writer going on about how wonderful this product is, how that bait never fails etc, etc. It goes to show how the world has turned where in the States, the home of salesmanship, performance is more important than appearence. They'll be producing polyphonic bite alams next !!!! . . and even worse anglers will buy them !!!! Arrrrrrrrrrrrrr I know the next products . . The Fox Camo house brick . . to throw at the guy in the next swim with his alarms at full volume sounding like a climaxing woman. If that does not work perhaps the Nash Bazouka with night sight , or AK47 with matching Realtree body bags to clear up the mess, you would not want to get thrown off the water due to a bit of rubbish lying around ( up the trees, splattered over the reeds etc ).
  12. Democracy is destroying it’s self in the name of the ‘public’ good. In every area of life the government seeks to control the masses, those that oppose this action are then pilloried by those in power who quote they have a mandate from the elected. The government has, over the last 10 or so years, turned George Orwell from author to prophet.
  13. Just going for a Peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  14. Great enjoyed that Mate sent me this one and thought it's worth sharing . . Little boy asks dad 'Where does Poo come from'? Dad explains that food passes down the esophagus to the stomach where digestive enzymes induce a probiotic reaction in the alimentary canal to extract protein before waste products descend via the colon and rectum to emerge as "poo". Blimey says the little boy . . .. . . 'and what about Tigger? :D
  15. Poldark I have always enjoyed your train of thought, your mind always seems to be ticking in a 'I wonder if this can be made/used better' mode. One other way to assist the deep hooking problems is to ensure you use a bait with a 'head' and ensure the first ( lower ) hook ( the one on the right in your drawing ) is no less than half way down the bait. I have to agree a missed Pike is better than a deep hooked Pike. Or, just to use one extra large single. I have not been out Piking yet this winter but hope, family permitting, to put that right next weekend. A friend ( Den you know Christian ) did a few night Carp sessions last week and reported Roach etc being hearded by Pike at a local water.
  16. I look forward to seeing the result, I work about 100m from the factory ! Always some great sounds when a race weekend is upon up, Cosworth engines hitting their limiters !!
  17. Matt you could always consider a trailer . . with matching wheels !!
  18. Well done Matt Luke and I fished Gillingham pier last Saturday. Conditions were perfect. Bright and sunny after a misty start, no wind resulting in that rare oily calm. A decent rising tide . . we saw nothing, no knocks . . total zero. So have put my Mullet rods away from another year. I'll now get a rash of calls and emails telling to dust them off and get back out there!!
  19. Best regards Tony Catching me up . . again! Best regards to Sue
  20. Matt gerrrrr beat mine UK 9lb 1oz Do a search with the sea fishing forum on Anglers net and you'll find a post / picture !! What a fish . . over 10lbs.
  21. Being published Sept 3rd, mine should arrive on the 4th !
  22. I have only experenced this once with Mullet, when nothing would seem to scare the fish. It was like they had lost all fear, pure madness. Only problem is it does not last long and by the time you have landed one fish the others have 'switched' off. I have seen simular events with both Carp and Trout both brought on by a sudden and heavy downpoor in the midst of a long very hot spell.
  23. A bit late in the day . . a happy birthday from me
  24. Nice PMM. The start of the coarse season sees me after Tench for the next couple of weeks, but looking forward to my annual July long weekend after the Weymouth Mullet
