  1. Numes,if you are happy using your wilson rod,and its doing its job--fine,why change it!I have used my wilson rod for float work(carp and barbel),although I must admit to a bit of poleitis over the last few years,on the occasions i fish a still water. Chuby.
  2. Certainly the fishing on my local river got very hard as the summer wore on.Not suprising really as it is only a narrow, and mostly shallow stretch of river. With the temps we had,it was probably as low as I have seen it for donkey's years.Well that's my excuse anyway . Chuby
  3. Well, being a goody goody ,I always give my reels a wipe down with a damp cloth, dry them off, remove the spools and have a clean out. However my mate usually waits until there is a good amount of mud/groundbait adorning the outside, and if there is sufficient grit behind the spool housing to create a nice grinding sound ,he then and only then gives them a clean. 4. Will fish a reasonably local commercial a couple of times, probably late April, perhaps get down to Brighton Marina for a day,do some float fishing for mackeral and gars etc during May.apart from that, it's sort my own garden out  (have enough of doing them all day)and get the front of the house painted(I hope) before the 16th. Chuby.
  5. I;m with Barclays, have been for 15 years, and must say the charges are starting to creep up(£15 per year for internet banking)all the time  .Must say though I did get a business loan a little while back, and it was in my account in a very short space of time and without any hastle.I did look at perhaps using Nationwide flex account, but they are not for business, and suspect other buldg soc/bank accnts are the same!,although dare say one could get away with it.By the way, just been pulled in by the tax man---Phew Asked just about every question in the book, even what are your hobbies---Angling I said,oh really he says, thats a cheap hobby then.Yes I said very . Chuby.
  6. Dont you just hate some people  ,especially when they are doing better than you Well done Chuby

  9. I'll go along with Gimme Gimme Gimme ,utter dross.Last of the summer wine, used to be brilliant years ago,now they are just churning out stuff to keep the remaining actors in work!!!. For me the best stuff, was fairly short lived,ie Fawlty towers. Chuby.
  10. Get yer 12 bore out mate----------duck a la orange yummie
  11. Frodo,is that the Env Agency scheme!!.Usually get a magazine sent ,after purchase of licence, and there is a voucher, come one day licence, that you fill in to take a freind for the day.Think it is usually restricted to July /August,could be wrong on that though. Chuby.
  12. Used a keepnet in ireland last year, first time for years,as most of my fishing is on the river and more especially as i rove around ,ijust dont bother. My club does not allow the use of them anyway(EXEPT MATCHES!!!) .I do fish one commercial complex every now and then, which does allow their use,but dont even bother to take one along. Chuby

Spent saturday(two of us)on our local river, expected good things after loosing a decent chub first chuck, but it went downhill fast  My mate ended up with one chublet and i blanked .We wern't alone though as others fared little better on a day what looked like a good bet for a few chub. Chuby
  16. Markymark, its Preston's ,nick has answered for me ,save me a trip to the tackle shop. Chuby
  17. hi, Markymark.Know exactly what gadgets you are refering to only trouble is cant recall the manufacturer  .You get two inserts as standard, but other inserts are available as seperate items.Suggest you take it to your local tackle shop ,try them.My tackle shop started to sell them,if i get a chance to call in there before i go on my hols i will, but cant promise Chuby.

  21. Hi Peter/Fenboy,Have had a good troll through my mags, but no adds for the D.P.pike rod, although did find one(in general) for Chapmans'angling mecca'.Have a blk/white picture(second angling times book) of D.P,gaffing a 27lb er,from Heigham Sound, using incidentally ONE of the rods won by him from Angling Times. Also an artical in the book by him. With regard to old bits and bobs,a tackle dealer in the west midlands(Bill Leavesley),always had masses of old gear, and used to make up small cabinets(some in the local pubs,up there)of things like pike bungs, grayling floats, porcupine qulls, plugs and spinners, and assorted what have you.Obviousley not worth a great deal, but of great interest though. Chuby
  22. Re Budgie's reply. You are so right when you say you love the smell of weirpools, strange in'it but they do seem to have a characteristic whiff to em .Also without knowing the place(all pools are different),you can't generalise and give specific help.As in all forms of angling,it's a learning process and the best way is to get out there and experiment and just accept that you may fail a few times, then when you come up trumps---- . Chuby.
  23. Fenboy,You are right when you say we get our gear cheap these days, and in abundanceSome more prices i've dug up. Mitchell 300(1968)£7.19/-.6d Intrepid Elite same year,£4.11/-. Match Ariel £6.4/-(1968) RICHARD WALKER mk1V(B JAMES)£11.6/-(1968) How much now for the last two!!!! Chuby
  24. Mat,are you fishing the main pool of the weir!Certainly in the main area of the pool there will be conflicting currents, and is probably best tackled with the leger.Think I would seek out slightly less turbulent water, slightly further downstream and trot for the roach and dace there.Thats not to say they wont be in the pool, just easier to fish with the float. Chuby.
  25. fenboy.Dont know the test curve of the rod,but it looks a brute compared with the modern rods, could well be up around the 3lb mark.As for cost,i really cant recall. If Peter says £12 then he could well be correct, although I must say i would have thought around £8.I will have to have a scoure through my old mags see if I can find out.I have a print of an add on my wall for Milbro Mitchell Mer(1963),priced at £8.19/-. 6d,and another for a B.james 'the trotter' cane rod(around the same era),priced at £12.12/-,so peter could well be right. Chuby.
