  1. I enjoyed the comment in one of the dailies this morning:- "To say that John Terry looked sluggish would be an insult to slugs."
  2. I agree that we're too cynical in the UK - I'd prefer to see much more of the 'can-do' attitude that you see in the States. If, however, you like the sentimentality of this story you'll love this site. It's full of it!
  3. She shouldn't expect to winalot from the divorce proceedings, then....
  4. Here's a link that makes me want to kick someone's backside until they see some sense. Alternatively, does anyone know how I could get a job as a Trading Standards Officer? Such a rewarding and worthwhile occupation....
  5. There are several more pictures here: http://www.foxnews.com/photoessay/0,4644,1636,00.html
  6. Well, if the building work is for the 2008 Olympics this family are going to have an excellent view... ... unless that's the swimming pool they're digging.
  7. "BLOODY HELL YOUR FLIES ARE WIDE OPEN" Said in a very loud voice, this is usually very effective in sorting the problem.
  8. I think I've just lost the will to live....
  9. Not true, I'm afraid (more's the pity.. ) Snopes link.
  10. What amazes me is that anyone thought that you could construct and fit out an architect-designed, purpose built building for less than £100m. As Ken says the subsequent overrun(s) were to be expected when the politicians got involved in making operational decisions, as can be seen south of the border with the Wembley project.
  11. That's the first time I've seen a pussy there..
  12. Dave Barry is an excellent writer: see here.
  13. That's far too close to the truth to be remotely funny...
  14. All power to your elbow! It looks good so far, but I don't envy you the work needed to keep the site up to date! It's in my favourites already. I'll send you a spreadsheet I made with details of about 250 venues in England: all stillwaters, I'm afraid, but it may help anyway.
  15. I missed the first part, but saw most of the second half. To be honest I was very disappointed with the acts featured (ie they weren't funny). Can't remember many names, but I saw 3 stand-up comedians (one English, one Irish and an American woman) who were all terrible to watch. Also a few sketches that were excrutiating. Peter Cook must have been spinning in his grave.
  16. I'd say that there's not much hope for Malaysian (or French, for that matter). As soon as any linguistic 'correctness' becomes set in stone, that language starts to become dated. English has survived so well BECAUSE it changes and adapts under different influences.
  17. I was disappointed that there wasn't a "I never do polls" choice...
  18. Robinswood in Churt/Frensham (Surrey) might be worth a try, depending on distance: I say this as it has many ponds, some of which are quite small and would make it easy to spot the fish. It's also C&R.
  19. Whew! managed 60 then 35 seconds. My eyes!!!!!
  20. Looks like a piece of barbed wire, only far bigger...
  21. A family took their frail elderly mother to a nursing home and left her, hoping she would be well cared for. The next morning, the nurses bathed her, dressed her, did her hair, fed her a tasty breakfast and set her in a chair at a window overlooking a lovely flower garden. She seemed OK but after a while she slowly started to tilt sideways in her chair. Two attentive nurses immediately rushed up to catch her and straighten her up. Again, she seemed fine but after a while she slowly started to tilt over to her other side. The nurses rushed back and once more brought her back upright. This went on all morning. Later, the family arrived to see how the old woman was adjusting to her new home. "So Mum, how is it here? Are they treating you well?" "It's all right" she replied. "Except they won't let me fart."
  22. Tradition? What a load of tosh. The short kilt that everyone wears these days was designed by a London tailor in Victorian times - nothing to do with Scottish custom at all. As for the family's idea of heritage: "Warmack's parents, Terry and Paula, helped him piece together the rest of his outfit, a white shirt and black tie with white socks and black boots." Sounds very authentic to me. Just like the African-American lawyers turning up to court in California wearing tribal costumes...
  23. Not many people playing these days... presumeably all be involved in last-minute panic buying. It's now coming up with a new (randomly selected) topic every day - today's is Television, which gives an advantage to those familiar with US TV series.
