I'm looking forward to the end of closing times (as well as looking forward to smokeless pubs, but that's another debate) but don't think it will have any appreciable impact on the amount of violence we see after drinking. My view is that drink doesn't make you violent, it only removes the social inhibition that stops people being violent/unreasonable all the time. If they get drunk they'll get punchy, no matter how long they've been in the pub.

If the fish are feeding on the surface you could try Gobio's set-up but with a floating fly on the point: this will keep all the flies just under the surface as they'll be held at one end by the "float" and at the other by the floating line. It's known as the washing line technique. The floating fly is useful as a bite indicator as well. Tight lines.
