Sharkbyte - great graph and calculations. Hadn't seen that before. I ran details on my boat and it seems pretty accurate.

1400 lb hull

185 lb fuel (assuming 6.2lbs per gal)

350 lbs me & a little gear

375 lbs outboard weight

-------

2310 / 115hp = 20 so 35kts/40mph/65kph

With all things being in good order, I can make around 42 or 42 mph without blowing up my motor.

Hi Glasgowdan.

You could pick up a good Johnson/Evinrude 6hp auxillary for about £100-£150. The bow roller is pretty cheap and easy to fit. I just thought that this might be a good buy because it is about a grand cheaper than most of the shoties that I've seen for sale.

I'm sure you'll get fixed up soon anyway.

dan,

you don't need a bow roller on a boat like this as there is no forward access, you set anchor with a lazy line and pull the anchor in at the side using the alderney ring technique.

i used to have a shortie and had a 60hp mariner on it and top speed was 30 and a bit MPH not knots, my current boat a seatrooper also has a 60hp mariner but the bigfoot version and top speed on this is 32mph, a mate has the same boat with a 70hp yamaha and he tops out at 37mph

just my tuppence worth, are you sure you weren't looking at the rev counter norrie

 I have a six HP Evinrude with 12V take off as new, less than 10 hrs running, used as aux, full remotes(new) inc. tank, open to sensible offers as it's taking up space in my garage. :D

That sounds a lovely engine Norm. The Johnson/Evinrude 6's are fantastic engines. If I didn't already have one, I'd jump at it. Maybe Elton might be interested?

Hiya, Wayne, I certainly dont think for a minute that you were/are calling me a liar, nor do i think that your thoughts/ideas are for your self gratification (good word eh!!). I am willing to hear all thoughts on this subject, as I am VERY new to fast boat fishing, having pottered around in slower boats for a few years....as I said before the GPS is going off soon to be checked out at Faslane...by a chap that knows all that stuff. I did look at your chart etc, but tho' I get the gist of it..I left school over 30 years ago, and its not really my forte... :D . I dont know the pitch of the prop, and dont have a rev counter....but..the KPH /Knots idea might be worth another look....I will confirm this or not tomorrow when I get home from Fishing...

Please keep posting on this, as I am thoroughly enjoying it, and enjoy reading it all...its really very helpful ....

Daniel, Should be home about 6 ish tomorrow....so you can call me then mate....seeya soon. :D
