I hear a lot of people talking about the biggest fish and their PB's, but out of curiosity, there must be some strange stories of people catching tiddlers on large tackle.... so, tell us your story! :D

Cheers,

As a kid I used to catch sticklebacks out of the garden pond, using 1lb line (no rod or reel), a float made out of a matchstick, and a single bloodworm on a 20 hook. The fish were far too small to take the hook, but they'd hang onto the bloodworm long enough for me to pull them out :D Great fun!

The smallest fish caught on 'proper' gear would be a minnow.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

I remember when I was much younger I used to catch goldfish from the garden pond with a rod and reel that my Dad made me with a bit of bread tied to the end of the line - NO HOOK! and I landed a couple which I was impressed with as susually they just fell off once breaching the surface, unsurprisingly with no hook!

Female 10-spined stickleback, last year, which was my 99th UK species caught on hook and line.

The size 26 hook in the picture has a gape of just 1.9 mm (0.075 inches)

That makes the fish about 22mm long - less than an inch !

My friend had a sunken baby bath in his garden which was his stickleback pond. We used to do the same (but there were extra points for newts!)

This is the smallest fish I've caught on the fly:

I think my smallest fish on propper fishing gear would be a minnow although I have had some ultra small perch, chub etc and they weren't caught by design either so sometimes the hooks and size of baits they took or impailed them selves on where quite amazing.
