What is the smallest fish you have ever caught?

Not sure which one would be the smallest but I have caught assorted small barbs and tetra and other small tiddlers down to around 2cm while in Malayasia, Indonesia and Thailand.

 

At home it would be toss up between a Bitterling, Minnow, Gudgeon, Stickleback, Perch and Ruff which I have had down to around 6cm. Maybe this year I can improve on that and try to catch a 5 centimeter fish :D

 

On the salt water front I have had assorted Gobies to around 5cm while fishing rock pools.

Deliberately on rod and line it's got to be three-spined stickleback but I did once foul-hook a miniature stone loach of less than an inch whilst sea-trout fishing on the River (sorry) Afon Teifi

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

....if foul-hooking also counts, then anyone who has done much spinning will have picked up the odd tiny fry on a sharp point on more than one occasion. I don't count those except for ichthyological interest if they are large enough to identify.

 

Does this one count ? A bass caught in the Solent came in festooned with the weed for which that venue is famous. Unwrapping the weeed from the bass, an inch of the weed wriggled.

 

Closer inspection showed it to be a worm pipefish. "Caught" on rod and line. Uptiding too!

I'd something similar Dave, only it was a tench covered in weed from a local park pond. As I removed the weed, a tiny tench, not much over 1" popped out!

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John
