Very good design Brian.Sadly not the answer to ultra long range baiting though mate. Trouble is the size to weight ratio.Too bulky for the relatively low weight to cast real long distances.Mind you in all fairness the only "payload" I tried with it so far was 8mm pellets and they aint that heavy.Certainly no spills and opens every time.

I will certainly be replacing all my sub 100m spodding with it.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Cracking fish Budgie. It's easy to get blase about 8lb tench, but I reckon 8lb is still the marker for a 'big' tench. And one of those is almost 9lb! If that's the swim I think it is, it means the tench are packing on weight despite the cold weather. I fished that one in mid-April and caught quite a few tench, but struggled to find a '7'. It all bodes well!

You could stick an extra pound on them straight away if we get some hot weather!

Yes definately. If we have some warm weather now untill the fish in people could be in for some cracking fish.

Well Ive just got back from Wingham and as expected the cold weather and NE winds hasn't helped much. That said we still had a few Tench.I managed 6 the biggest at 8.13 another at 8 dead and the rest I didn't weigh.Despite the weather it was as all ways just good to be there.

Im off on holiday on the Sunday of the fish in (**** poor planning by myself!) but I will be over on the Saturday.Anyone who wants a hand/info just ask.

Feel free to point out where the 8lb tench are in my swim :)

I'm down this weekend, so will let you know how I get on. I will be giving the maggot feeders another go as they worked so well last time. I will hold off on my planned eel night, to be honest I was planning that for the summer anyway. I don't want to bait up and attract every eel at Wingham in to a swim that Steve may allocate to some one at the Fish-In :D

I had a look at Tinca's a few weeks ago at Wingham. It is a very clever design. I don't think there's any benefit for me personally over a spod, but I can see it's benefits. One drawback that occurred was that, because of the way it's loaded with bait (split down the middle) you can only ever half fill it, so presumably baiting up takes longer and is more disruptive (if putting a lot of bait out)?

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Yes your right. You can pile the load up a bit in the bottom half but its never 100% full.Thats a lot of the reason it ends up losing on the bulk to weight ratio.

I had an idea to improve on it - instead of automatically opening when it hits the water, make it a remote control release so you overcast every time, draw it back to exactly the right spot, then press the button to release the bait.

Then I remembered that this device already exists. It's called a baitboat :D
