"Anglers face prosecution" - BBC

An item on the teletext news says the new draft law on animal cruelty is so badly worded that anglers might be prosecuted under it.

I know no more details than that bald statement - does anyone know more?

This Government is making some very poor legislation. Unfortunately, the majority of the population look like voting them in again. The result will be a country unrecognisable to anyone over the age of 30 who cherished what we had before.

There was a time when the Uk was the most tolerant country in the world. We tolerated what others did even if we didn't partake ourselves. Fox hunting is a prime example.

This Government is populist. By this I mean that if a majority of people don't do something, they will ban it. Like smoking. 4x4s. Binge drinking. The food we eat. The cars we drive.

In short, the opinions of a few right-on trendies in Islington is being forced upon the rest of the populace.

Of course they will ban angling. And conkers. It is inevitable.

Be warned.

Not quite right there, fenboy, this government has done a lot of things wrong but one or two right.

Like it or not, smoking in public places is being banned in more and more countries around the world, and in every case following MEDICAL ADVICE! 4x4's? When were they banned?

So you're in favour of binge drinking and all the crime that goes with it (by the way it's not banned, but disapproved - by me too!)

Food is not banned, just the food that governments (plural) have been trying to wean us off for years, but WE won't listen!

There are some poorly worded laws being introduced out there. Who would have thought that the Right to Roam act would be used to close a water way down as has happened on the Broads. But I don't blame the Government for that, I blame the smart rrrrrrr lawyers who twist laws to their advantage.

Re electing Labour back in, I shall vote for them. I'm old enough to remember the changes forced on this once great country by the Tories under Maggie. She distroyed whole communities and made greed and sleeze popular and acceptable. No greater change has been forced on this country since World War 2 other than by that woman, that Tory government of hers.

The thing you fail to mention Peter is that Blair used Thatcher as his role model and the fundamental difference between this lot and the Tories is that they got elected and managed to dissemble more effectively when they get caught.

I'm old enough to remember what it was like before Maggie!

The country effectively run by unions rather than the elected government! The country almost bankrupt and having to be bailed out by the IMF like a banana republic!

Britain badly needed to correct the damage done by the previous Labour administration. Maggie did just that.

However I agree that, as often happens, the pendulum swung back too far. Maggie finally lost my support when she announced "We are a grandmother"!
