Most of the people in the shop have prob never seen a horse except on a race track!

I think that's the whole point of their marketing strategy though. I noticed they advertised this stuff in the Anglers Mail and probably did the same with the horsey stuff. By getting people in who may not normally go to Lidl theyve done the hard part by getting them through the front door. After that, all theyve got to do is show them some other special offers and cheap baked beans and they could win over a new set of customers. Clever marketing i reckon
Most of Lidls stores I have been in sell to East European customers, I think the fishing kit is perfect for catching pike, carp and many other coarse fish.................FOR DINNER.

Matthew,

Nice one on getting the carp set for 15 quid. The rod and reel are OK aren't they? The line is p1ss though.

You don't need a 6m rod mate.

Good luck on taking kids fishing, been there done that, need the patience of a saint but gotta love em.

Do you think this Lidl thread will ever end?

I don't think the stratedgy is purely get anglers in and they will maybe buy other things. It also works the other way round. 18 months ago whilst shopping is saw one of those combo kits, and it brought back memories of fishing as a lad. Used my 11 year old as an excuse to buy it, and today, 18 months later and a lot of money later, I'm hooked again and loving it.

a fish,a fish, my kingdom for a fish

I bought the trout fishing kit and can't wait to try it out on Rutland Water. I'm not sure if a fly rod is the best tool for casting those big floats out though.

Actually, I thought it was nearly all some of the worst crap you could ever buy. It is all the kind of gear that justifies all the advice that you should always go to a proper tackler dealer.

English as tuppence, changing yet changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete, bold flag-bearer, lotus-fed Miss Havishambling, opsimath and eremite, feudal, still reactionary, Rawlinson End.
