Any UK Freshwater species that you are keen to catch?

Last year I had a bee in my bonnett about catching my first Zander and have never looked back since and they have now become one of my favourite species. It's odd that a fish that before last October I had never fished for can now become a firm favourite. This year I had planned to try for a Sturgeon or Sterlet but with one thing and another I never got around to giving it ago.

But one species I had been meaning to try for but never sorted out were Grayling and thanks to Rusty arranging the Itchen Fish-In for next year I will have a chance to try to catch my first one :D

So I was wondering has any one else got any UK species that they have been meaning to try for but for one reason or another never seem to get around to fishing for? I love catching new species, but the year seems to fly by and I have spent most of my time after the same fish that I always fish for. Theres nothing wrong with that, but it just seems there is never enough time to do all the different fishing I would like to :D

Stephen

Pike and zander for me. The reasons for not trying for them is purely lack of experience, so i'll wait till i get a bit more general fishing experience and when i can drag a more experienced friend along to show me the ropes

I've yet to catch a zander and it would be a novelty but nearest are Old Bury Hill or lower Severn. I meant to try for catfish this summer but didn't try very hard; an attempt with small live roach resulted in two decent perch, and a trip on the same water a few weeks later I think I might have hooked a 'kitten' on maggots but lost it - certainly the strangest fight I've ever had though it only felt like a couple of pounds.

I catch plenty of grayling - they're good fun but as another angler remarked to me last winter they are the fish that make you look good - they are very easy to catch.

One English fish I had several times in the 70s is large mouth black bass; no chance any more so you lot can eat your hearts out as far as catching an English one is concerned!

Where on earth did you catch a LMB in England ?

There was a thread a couple of years back about these fish but the best anyone could come up with was a few unsubstantiated reports of now extinct stockings on US air bases.

Zander for me too by the way - been having the occasional bash for one for a couple of years but have yet to conect.

2lb Roach in a wild river and not a carp puddle

I'd like to catch a grayling, a 2lb roach and a large perch.

Well there are a lot of big Roach about so you not have much trouble...In fact some rivers seem to team with them...

For me its got to be a 4lb 3oz Roach and an 19lb 0oz Barbel

But I will happily settle for a 1lb 4oz dace or a 4lb 8oz Crucian Carp

From a spark a fire will flare up
