Specimen reel options but not big pit!

I've just aquired a pair of 2lb Korum rods and am looking to purchase two reels to pair them. My quarry will be quite varied from drain and canal piking, feeder fishing for tench and bream and small estate lake/pond carping. I'm not interested in rear drag shimano tat (awful sticky drags) although their 5000 sized reels seem to the perfect size I'm after.

Any ideas anybody?

Thanks in advance!

Ben

Might be worth having a look and actually handing a pair of Shakespeare Mach 3 xt reels in the large size. I have used the small size and the front drag one is a dream as smooth as silk. But the larger sizes I have not tried, the rear drag ones are certainly not as smooth as the front drag ones in the smaller sizes, next I would suggest a Mitchell 308 xge I have found them to be one of the best fixed spools about today.

I would have said Okuma Epix Pro's in the 40 size but my friend and I have just aquired the last four we could find anywhere from Ebay, delivered today actually and I must say they look the dogs danglies. Can't wait to use them in anger!

The nearest you'll find to them from the current range is the Longbow which hasn't quite got the same spec in terms of ball bearings but will still be a decent reel:

The 40 size should be right for your intended quarry!

I am afraid for me its daiwa all the way.

After buying many different makes over the years I bought my first quality daiwa when the tdr hit the market. Since then I have bought many different daiwa reels for all my varied types of fishing.

I have a pair of caldia 4000,s that are perfect for your needs. Quality solid built lovely line lay huge cranking power and will last a lifetime.

These are now older models but the current caldia x or excellor plus would be as good.

The size and weight of a reel are whats also important for your rods. You do not need a very light or small reel as it will not feel balanced.

regards

I agree that these are fantastic reels. I have two myself in the 6000 size and they perform amazingly well. Although if you are after spending a little less the ST 6000 RA is also very hard to beat for its price. Not that disimilar to the XTEA's either. Only difference I have found is plastic spool and less bearings. Great drag on them. And I mean great.
