Fish 'n' Tips

I've been sitting here for ages, as the site tells me that Steve Pope is typing a reply. I'm dying to see what it is, but have to take number one daughter to Brownies in a minute.... :D

EDIT: nope, too slow. I'll read it later. Hope he's quicker at hitting barbel bites... :D

Love the post mate!

My computer is so blinkin' slow up here in the Welsh hills!

Taking your daughter to Brownies, you've just brought all the memories back having three daughters who all loved it, still have all their uniforms neatly packed away somewhere.

I still haven't seen the magazine, but as a point of interest, am I the only bloke on here who quite likes fit women?

No, you're not Elton, although one mans idea of "fit", can mean something else to another. ;)

I wasn't insulted or disgusted by the mag, it just seemed a bit 'sad' to see angling having to be 'sold', especially like this.

Although I suppose if we have to look at yet another picture of a carp, it might as well be held by a bird in a bikini.

As I said before, I'm not in it's target audience, so it doesn't appeal.

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Still struggling to find a copy and have been in loads of shops today as I was in central London for a meeting this morning and in no hurry to return to the office, so stoped at every likely shop on the way back.

Could not find one, but the other publications done well out of me as I ended up picking up a few others Total Carp, Total Coarse Fishing, Anglers Mail & Adventure Fishing

Maybe I should stop looking or I will have no cash left for bait for the weekend :D

Stephen

I have to agree with elton, if there is a decent fishing magazine with a few hot women thrown in for good measure then all the better, it doesn't put me off at all, in fact it does quite the opposite hahaha

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

LOL

It'll be interesting to see what my wife makes of this one, when I leave it lying around.

Well mine was less than impressed, but that might have been because my 11 year old was giggling at the naked girl on the back cover!

ooops!

Hi Elton,

I 'll be really interested in your view on this topic, I'm certain Mark will be as well, there is no doubt opinion is divided.

I've written a number of articles for the magazine now and I'm sure that it will be successful and evolve.

Having seen and read the first issue I think the mix and writing styles are excellent and different enough to appeal to a new as well as an existing audience.

We can discuss the obvious issues till the cows come home and as I said opinions will be divided, but I do smile at some of the humbug, I use that word instead of hypocrisy!

You mention the car shows, it was no different at the Angling Shows!

All the best.

Steve

I can't comment at the moment as, apart from the cover in Smiths, I haven't seen the magazine.

However, over the years I've seen numerous conversations on the internet about how some people don't like the current crop of magazines, so those people may well be pleased that something quite different is being tried. Love it or loathe it, at least it isn't "just another fishing magazine".

Not too pleased to read their latest Facebook post, mind you, which seems to be rewarding people for spamming forums and other Facebook pages. That won't win them any friends! I'll have to unleash the Newt on any that try such tactics here, and he hasn't been fed this month :D

I can recommend the upcoming National Vintage Tackle Fair in Redditch on May 15th for anyone wishing to attend an angling show free of distractions in the form of bikini-clad lovelies.

There aren't even going to be any vintage grannies in Victorian stripy bathing dresses.

:D

I think I agree with this. I don't think it's for me, and it sounds as if the tone of the articles might be a bit out of kilter with the audience that the attitude of the rest of the magazine targets, but more diversity is a good thing.

Yes, I'd agree with that too. I guess I'm just a bit annoyed that the mags I like are dying off and the new ones that come along don't appeal to me. But then I'm the sort of person who would enjoy a 1000-word article on mashed bread, or why blanking is a good thing

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music
