Now let's ban fishing!!

from Teresa Thom

I had the considerable displeasure of witnessing an act of great cruelty on a visit to a popular fishing spot near your offices on Saturday.

A group of people were engaged in a fishing match.

I could not believe that this hideous and grotesquely cruel practise is still permitted under British law.

Now that we are banning hunting with dogsin this country I am sure that we must ban this evil practise as soon as possible.

Please tell your readers that if they ever see this evil practise they are to approach the fishermen and women and tell them to stop.

I shall be returning to your area at the end of the month and looking for people who will support a ban on fishing.

James Street,

London W1

Enough said??????????????????????

Colin

Call me cynical, but the above letter doesn't ring true.

I mean, she comes from west London and will be going back to (Cambridge I presume) to gather more troops.

Hhmmmm, sounds like she's from some sort of organisation or something, not just some 'member of the public'!!

On another note, let's stop 'beating our chests' on forums like these.

Things like, "if he did this, then I'd do that" puts us in a bad light.

We really ought to let these people know about the good things that anglers do for the country side, like informing the authorities about pollution and injured bird life etc. Another thing is that if anglers did not spend thier money on fishing as a hobby do you think that these waters would remain in such well looked after condition I think not.

Since it is over a week since the letter was

posted,I have to ask if it has elicited any

responses in the relevant newspapers?

It certainly has. So far 4 letters in the Cambridge News in support of Angling. If you check out this thread closely, you should find some of the replies sent.

The original letter did not appear in my local weekly rag, but this week there is a hlf-page feture promoting angling amongst the youngsters.

There was also a letter this week supporting the forthcoming march!

Further to the above, Tony Miles does a weekly collumn in the paper - so, generally, I think ours is a paper that is fully supportive of angling - which is some good news at least!

Its now in todays Galloway News. Alongside it is a letter from the CA encouraging people to attend the march in London and on the opposite page a feature about the march.

Interesting that 'the' letter was published alongside the CA call to support the march. Call me cynical if you wish!!

My own suggestion that a CA supporter is called 'Theresa Thom' was published in my local paper. No one from the CA has responded to rubbish my suggestion. So, can we draw any conclusions from that?

I wonder why she spells practice the way she does. Could it be that she is an imported activist?

Peter, I think the main conclusion we can draw, is that the only person who takes you seriously is yourself. :)
