Great write up John and some great fish. I do like to read catch reports and see pics. Don't be put of by Anderoos temporary absence as there are others on here who also like a good read and to see how we are all getting on.

gozzer,

Ocean pit - "This is a Monster Lake" at over 100 acres - - -" . That's what goofed me up.

Here is a description of my home puddle. The Lake of the Ozarks measures more than 90 miles (140 km) in length and has several tributaries supplying it. In total, it has over 1,100 miles (1,800 km) of shoreline in four different Missouri counties.

Yup, you've just got to put it in context. A 100+ acre lake is a fairly big one over here, especially when you see the numbers of created 'fisheries' that are often less than 1acre in size. Mind you, the stock numbers and weight in some of these small manufactured 'fisheries' (usually your beloved carp), are not that much less than a 'natural' lake of 10 or 20 times the size.

Gravel pits are usually much harder to fish than a normal lake, because of the way they have been dug, and the depth changes. This often makes the finding of fish much harder. This is why I applaud Johns efforts in finding, and then feeding a fish holding feature, and then catching some good fish from it.

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't got bream over there. Never mind I suppose the carp make up for it in some small way.

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Belting bream mate. Looks a very good water. Would love to give that a bash.

Keep on with the reports, top stuff

John, a great report and it's really whetted my appetite to get out this weekend.

I hope to meet up with Adam247 a new poster on here. The water will be challenging for different reasons, and the stamp of bream certainly not up to yours.

I'll have to go to the Bridgewater Canal for my decent bream fishing.

This is a signature, there are many signatures like it but this one is mine

and hope the forum gets back to its old self soon.

Same here. There does seem to be an air of hostility around the forum at the moment with people getting up each others backs for whatever reason. Its not good for anyone really.

People go fishing for a multitude of reasons. Some for the challenge, others to feel at one with nature or possibly just to get away from the wife.

Consequently this wide variety of anglers will respond to a variety of styles or types of fishing and some, dare I say it, actually enjoy fishing carp commercials. OK so the fishing isn't challenging but maybe that's what they want and enjoy.

When these same fisherman are repeatedly referred to as "noddies" or not "proper" or "serious" fishermen then it tends to irritate them. When assumptions are made that they are all too thick to see through the advertising hype they are bombarded with whilst, of course, the more discerning "serious" angler uses exactly the same kit but because he has evaluated it ;) then this also tends to get his back up.

When serious Speci hunters fish for large bream, tench or barbel using exactly the same tackle as carp fishermen, used in the same way for the same reason (because it works) as the carp anglers, the specimen boys are congratulated on being "committed" to their sport or "top anglers. Carp anglers on the other hand are described as "noddy in a tent watching telly with camo slippers on whilst carp hook themselves three at a time on 'set lines'

The quotes by the way are all from recent posts on a variety of threads.

Yes, some people are getting up each others backs

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

Another well thought out post by Sportsman

Plus well done John on some very good Bream and another very interesting catch report, I have to admit I think I would find a water that size very daunting to fish.

All, Addicted

Addicted, not likely, Phone's back. I do think it is time to "cut and paste" my disclaimer. It does appear AN has plenty of experts with "singular" opinions and views which are personally life sustaining for them. What's with the personal BS?

Here's my disclaimer from around 2000 and still true today.

All

Lots of new guys since I used to post as Phonebush, now I'm Phone so it is time for my disclaimer to be repeated.

I, Phone, frequently lie (it's a fundamental part of American fishing culture). I, Phone, never quote outside sources since I am an exhaulted and oft quoted expert on all thing carp myself. Each period ending a sentence posted by me, Phone (Phonebush), is an implied smiley face.

I, Phone (Phonebush), practice the tennants prescribed by the origins of "sports angling" and put a great deal of emphasis on the word FUN, as in "Phone tries to have FUN" rather than competition. There is no universal way to fish. If ever I infringe on any poster's personal values I am truly a temporary twit, declare a Senior moment (I am well into my70's), and appolige now, in advance.
