It is good to see that UK authorities are paying more than lip service to the Equal Opportunities regimen. :clap2:

Another example of the insanity infesting the UK at the moment was in the paper this morning. This woman refused to act as registrar for gay civil ceremonies because she is a christian and won her case.

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

I agree 100% with the lady in question, she was harrassed daily by other members of staff because of her christian beliefs. The service to the homosexual community wasn't being compromised in any way by her actions, so claims by stonewall and tatchell who always raises his head on these matters, that it was a permit to discriminate, are very wide of the mark and inflammatory as usual.

She had a simple choice. Do her job in full or leave. She found a third way and some idiot judge rewarded her for biggotry!

Giving precidence to religious or "cultural" practices and prejidices over the law of the land is simply unacceptable and there is absolutely no case for those values in the public service.

That way lies the acceptance of genital of mutilation of children, honour killings, stoning of gays and the sort of sectarian denial of access to public services that plagued Scotland and Northern Ireland for decades.

Here we go... just because someone expresses a strong religious belief, that is no justification for being subject to abuse in their workplace, and how dare you accuse her of being a bigot? Way out of order.

Having religious beliefs and cultural based rules is what fashioned this democratic (ish) country we live in, the 'law' as you put it is a product of our 'Christian' society. I am saddened that you feel there is no place for Christian beliefs in our Education, Health and Social Services.

Finally, to try to make a connection between this ladies Christian belief and practises such as genital mutilation, the taking of life and other such nonsense is frankly laughable.

Well said Snotty...call me old fashioned but what the hell is happening to this country? Gays (poofs, arse bandits, shirt lifters, turd burglars) call them what you will, getting married ???????????????????? Married???????????????????

If they are genetically out of order, then one would hope they would die out. Some hopes.

One doesn't have to have Christian beliefs to be anti homosexual, simple being normal is a good enough reason. Dirty filthy way of carrying on.

Den. I expect this post to last about 20 mins at the most :)

“Just because someone expresses a strong religious belief, that is no justification for being subject to abuse in their workplace”

Having a strong religious belief is no excuse for opting out of those aspects of her job that she doesn’t happen to like. Doing her job in a totally even handed manner irrespective of her personal feelings or prejudices is called professionalism!

“and how dare you accuse her of being a bigot? Way out of order.”

A bigot is what she is. Her actions against gays are no more acceptable than if she had refused to officiate at a mixed race wedding.

“Having religious beliefs and cultural based rules is what fashioned this democratic (ish) country we live in, the 'law' as you put it is a product of our 'Christian' society.”

What fashioned this society was for the most part the rich and powerful making rules to keep themselves rich and powerful. Religion just happens to have been the historical tool of choice that they employed to subjugate the masses.

Morals and ethics don’t come from a holey book, they are essentially universal to humanity and this is why very similar codes of conduct appear in diverse cultures around the globe, irrespective of religion.

Oh and if the law is a product of a Christian society, why don’t we still have slavery? It is after all comprehensively endorsed by the bible.

“I am saddened that you feel there is no place for Christian beliefs in our Education, Health and Social Services.”

Ok, I can live with that.

“Finally, to try to make a connection between this ladies Christian belief and practises such as genital mutilation, the taking of life and other such nonsense is frankly laughable.”

I suggest that you go and have a read of Genesis 17:10 for genital mutilation and Leviticus 24:10-16 (amongst many others) for the taking of life by stoning people to death for petty crimes.

“The lunatics are indeed taking over the asylum”

I think that’s what I said.

“... that is my final word on the matter. Goodnight”

Goodnight.
