ahh how about bus driver, bet there's lots of lady drivers who even have kids, bet there are a few widowed ones as well just to discount cory's argument.

If all expense accounts required their holders to use the minimum price options for food and transport. A very large proportion of restaurants in this country would close, hospitality suites at sporting venues would be empty (pushing up the cost for everyone else) and you'd have senior exectutives travelling accross London by bus.

Not quite sure if that's the world you're looking for.

 

The fact is that expenses rules for MEP's are set by Brussels, he was operating within the rules and thirteen years ago, there was no depression or austerity on the horizon.

I was working on the basis that she is an "unmarried mother of three" not a widowed mother of three!

Currently, pretty much all civil servants are required to demonstrate that they are travelling by the cheapest means practical, first class train tickets are banned, hotel and meal expenses are limited to the cost of the bill, don't include drinks and are capped at the level of basic provision. All invoices are also subject to scruitiny before they are paid and any fleshing out would be treated as gross misconduct and therefore be a sackable offence.

As a consequence many departments find it almost impossible to find staff who are prepared to work away from home (to the detriment of their business), because there's no money in it.

I would have no problem with MP's being subject to the same rules but you can't apply such measures retrospectively.

Ken have good read and tell me what you think the majority of these people are conservative councilors they have there fingers dipping its tax payers money remember looks like our council have quite a few bad apples you cant believe who is upto what .

BS ken you mean fingers in both pies its not BS ken its fact or it wouldnt be written in black and white the law would come down like a sledgehammer there are lot of councilors at it same as MPS its nice to be reminded it all comes out of the same pot as welfare its taxpayers money .

Some pretty crass answers to my question re the mother of three. She could be divorced, her husband could have died or left her, yes she MAY be a scrounger, but who looks after the YOUNG kids while she drives a bus? Whatever the reason, she quite obviously would need someone to look after kids (and pay them to do it) , child minder was suggested, ah yes, she could be one, and where would she "mind the kids" ?

 

 

I don't like scroungers/benefit dodgers, seen a few on the bank, but she didn't come across as "One of them"

 

Mind you, I did think the Essex joke was amusing
