???

Unless you are referring to the WWII slogan "Dig for Victory"

Everyone was exhorted to produce as much food as possible from their gardens to help the war effort.

My grandfather, in addition to his more-than-fulltime occupation as a steam locomotive driver, held two allotments as well as his own garden, kept chickens on all three, fed his family on home produced eggs, chickens, fruit and vegetables, swopped vegetables and eggs for sea produce from the local longshoremen, and still produced a surplus which he sold to pay for his tobacco.

What gardening skills I have were those he taught me.

Trying not to bring the tone down but there has been extra requests from fruit farmers for pest controllers to shoot parakeets. They are ripping into kent and surrey and sussex at the moment stuffing themselves with fruit like locusts. And i came out of all that last year as there was not enough contracts...Sods ruddy law :(

Is it where i am or am i having the biggest heatwave in 7 years and i have not seen one wasp?

Sorry Rudd don't mean to hi jack post but don't they rip into fruit too?....

killed a nest yesterday ,i usually dont bother but they kept coming from the loft into the bedroom via the mess of cables i have coming through the ceiling ,just one nest spotted this year usually theres two or three in the roof

Loads of bees though in the blue flowers they love ,lots of different types of bees as well as the common buff bums and bumbles

I rember there was a flock of 3 parakeets when i was a kid in bromley they kept annoying my old mans pigeons and ripping the felt off their loft

just made 5kg of apricot jam to go with the 6kg of strawberry jam I made a couple of weeks ago.

There are a lot of French peaches in the markets at the moment. I will be looking to preserve a couple of dozen kilner jars full next week
