Battle of Britain day...When the germans through everything they had at us and we never ran away like the French but held firm.

I am a great believer in anniversaries as they should be celebrated like July 4th for the yanks and yes for those who believe religeous events too.

God Bless Churchill and the RAF!

Would that be the same French that died holding the Germans at bay whilst the British Army were evacuated at Dunkirk?

Quote

From 28–31 May 1940, in the Siege of Lille, the remaining 40,000 men of the once-formidable French First Army fought in a delaying action against seven German divisions, including three armoured divisions, which were attempting to cut off and destroy the Allied armies at Dunkirk. According to Churchill, "These Frenchmen, under the gallant leadership of General Molinié, had for four critical days contained no less than seven German divisions which otherwise could have joined in the assaults on the Dunkirk perimeter. This was a splendid contribution to the escape of their more fortunate comrades of the British Expeditionary Force

Great Britain did not win the battle of Britain by force of arms it won the battle through the idiocy of the German leadership.

When our Radar was decimated and our Airfields were curtailed a little bombing raid by bomber command on Berlin caused fury with AH and he completely lost his head ordering the Luftwaffe to bomb London instead.

Goring then tied the hands of the fighters insisting that they stayed close to the bombers.

This and only this gave fighter command the time to rebuild.

The RAF was at one point only 2 weeks from being totally defeated and then the door would have been well and truly open. I take nothing away from the bravery of the pilots but Adolf Hitler and Herman Goring were our best allies in 1940.

This wasn't the first mistake that the Germans made either; the famous halt order at Dunkirk meant Great Britain retained its core fighting men although they lost all of their equipment in the evacuation. The BEF would have been completely annihilated had the order to halt the Wehrmacht not been given.

The French were very brave in both world wars and the resistance especially so. You can pick much bravery from every country including the germans but i found it sad they were prepared to hand their navy to the germans instead of sinking them. Because of that Churchill had to kill many french sinking their fleet. I will never understand that action by the French.

Hmmm lets think ,proud of a country that sent thousands of men to war with germany to die yet in the blink of an eye we're being bossed around by them under the guise of a scheme dreamt up by hitler in 1942 .

Now were being invaded by europe and have surrendered our soverign power over our borders and just let them fill the place up.

Are your sure were talking of the same pride? Or even the same country?
