OI OI,

as most of you know i live in newcastle-upon-tyne we dont have this fee (YET) & i think london is excacly what billy 5000 said i hope i never have to go there for any reason BUT if that is the way of london

transport or hiway agency's then so be it for ALL.

newt we do have toll roads whitch we can pay to make our journey faster or not pay & get stuck in traffic

but its not the case in london the charge is basically to drive through (its a bloody cheek) but its there for

everyone. toll road's or london charges are wrong, we pay car tax, fuel tax, so the money the goverment make out of all vehcles on the road we shouldent have queews, any new motorways should be a minimum of 5 lanes each side.

p.s. wait till you see our motoways newt they are like your a,roads.

:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

It isn't just the US, nor are they the worst offender.

Red Ken's past attitude to the US is, erm, not entirely even-handed. Sorry Newt, the Mayor of London just plain doesn't like your country. He objects to your foreign policy, particularly with regard to the Middle East, but I think he also finds the capitalist basis of your society repugnant.

I'm going to give a boring middle-of-the-road view. On one hand I think it's a bit tactless of the yanks not to pay if other nations are willing to do so. On the other hand I think it's at least arguable it's a tax.

From Britannica Online:

Tax -

Government levy on persons, groups, or businesses.

Taxes are a general obligation of taxpayers and are not paid in exchange for any specific benefit.

Though I suppose it could be argued that there's no 'benefit' in going to Central London ;)

Bleeding heart liberal pinko, with bacon on top.

There is an expression used in diplomatic circles 'engaged in activities not commensurate with one's status', which usually leads to being expelled from acountry.

Ignoring the law of the land isn't exactly ambassadorial conduct, is it? I'd just love to see the guy expelled - just to teach the rest of the embassy's staff a lesson. We can live in hope, no matter how forlorn.

The American's attitude doesn't really surprise me. they're used to the British over the last 20 years or so asking how far up the president's colon the PM should insert his nose.

This is a signature, there are many signatures like it but this one is mine

The USA is a little bit bigger than this country, and can afford to have huge highways. If we followed your advice, there would be very little green left as it would all be under concrete and tarmac (as rather too much already is).

Foreplay in Australia? That would be

"OK Sheila, brace yourself!"

I was with you all the way until you got to the Volvo Estates :)

My dig at London was no more than other's digs at the US.

America, like London and many Londoners, appears to have the mistaken impression that they can do no wrong, are always right, and that the rest of the world, or country, can not do without them!

It is an arrogance that is probably shared by most places of 'power'.

Re Congestion Charging, great! A tenner well spent in my opinion. It has certainly made driving around London a great deal easier for us occasional tourists.
