R.I.P. - a good thing?

All,

I agree Chesters1. I do listen to others praise me in the future tense but that's because I'm vain, not because I "will have" any particular after life, including no after life at all.

I certainly don't agree with Ken or any of the contingency that wish to "think in my behalf". I wonder by what right or benefit these self righteous feel compelled to define either rest or peace. I believe even non godly souls would like. "rest" (as in tranquility) or "peace" as in(the normal, non warring condition of a nation, group of nations - peace). The third option is equally conditional - nothing at all happens - just dead. Just dead is no doubt, at rest.

How would you reply to "How are you?" - or "What's up?" - or the living charged with disposing of you are not having RIP on your gravestone? Hello!

In most cases "hello" is to attract your attention. What does it mean to the dead?

Phone

Why is it that theists who think that they are going to spend perpetuity in bliss, sleeping in the arms of Jesus are more concerned about dying than those of us who do not believe in such childish nonsense?

because the last thing anyone who has lost anyone wants to be reminded of is a stinking rotten corpse planted in the ground and the mental image one is left with after thinking about it. nowt to do with taboo's its common sense really isn't it ?

Not common sense at all to me Andy, it's a natural process.

I don't know how many people close to you have died, but being the youngest child, of a youngest child, and with my parents having me late in life, I have known quite a few, at least a half dozen before I was out of my teens, and then in increasing numbers as I've grown older. I don't think of any of them as rotting corpses, (even though I know that's the case), I only think of them as I knew them. As Cory says, I wouldn't mind my own corpse feeding some large tree, maybe over looking a nice stretch of river, and maybe some of the insects/worms that feed on me, feeding the fish in it. It would be a very apt end, or continuation of the natural process, that links all living things.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Doesn't bother me ,we dont bury rotten corpses we make sure they dont come back by burning them then burying the ash.

I didnt though (unlike my sister and brother) visit the corpse before it was burned i prefer my memories to be of a living person rather than a dead one.

Cowardly i suppose but my preference

We do have some things in common then and I don't think it cowardly Dave. I've never really understood those that have to have one last swatch at the deceased before the screw the lid on.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Well said John. It seems to me, the older you get the more dead buggers you know.

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

Its far easier to curse the darkness than light one candle

You can say that again. I think I've averaged about 3 a year for the last 10 years!

Most I've accepted for what they were, and always felt sorry for those that were left. One funeral I attended 3/4 years ago, hit me more than any other. I never met him, I never spoke to him, but I admit I shed many a tear at the funeral. The sight of the coffin being carried easily by one man, because it was barely 3 feet long. I never new the person, because I didn't get a chance to visit in the seven short weeks of his life.

That was probably the worst funeral I've ever attended, and one which I often mention whenever I get the god botherers knocking on my door telling me how great he is.

Gozzer - the sight of my brother carrying a newborn sized coffin stays with me also.

Children should be burying their parents, it's always painful when a parent has to bury a child.
