I usually avoid anything he's in. It's always the Chris Evans show. I'll give it a try, but I'm not optimistic. He's an enthusiastic collector of Ferraris, but having a large and valuable record collection doesn't make you John Peel. Will anyone care what he thinks of a car?

 

We will have to see who the other presenters are. I think it's going to have to be a complete new format because the old show was entirely based on the three personalities and the chemistry between them. That will be challenging, because all of the other car show formats are awful or attract no viewers, usually both. TG had an unusually large and unusually broad audience, with more women and more young people than is typical (having a female presenter like 5th Gear doesn't seem to help in that respect). So I guess they have the choice of trying a path upon which most have failed or looking a bit like a crap covers band.

 

It will be interesting to see what happens.

 

I think Steve has got it spot on, the show had become the 3 presenters and their interaction.

 

I think they will struggle to recreate the same feel and I doubt it will ever reach the same level of popularity again. It would be brave to take it in a new direction but can't see that working, i guess they are hoping to find a new audience rather then just keep the same one.

TG was around for years before Clarkson came on the show, I see no reason why it can't carry on without him even though he, May and Hammond are going to be a hard act to follow. No doubt they'll lose some fans and gain others, but I'll be watching with an open mind. I just hope it doesn't turn out like a motorised version of The One Show a015.gif

Yeah, but before they came along, it was dying and had been canned. Whether they can reboot it again is not certain. It's a strong brand, though.

There will be a woman - that'll be Jodie Kidd then.

It's odds on that the BBC suits will then insist on:

A young person - pretty boy pop-star or similar.

A motoring journalist to play "expert" to Evan's "keen amateur" - because it works for gardening programs.

 

Even thinking about it makes my teeth itch.

Having Jodie Kidd on the team would not be a bad idea, we need some eye-candy.

 

I reckon Clarkson would have been leaving in a year or two anyway, after all he is getting on a bit and it's just about time to stand down for a younger chap (or chapess). No doubt after the first episode the forums will be exploding with "It's rubbish", "It's just brilliant" and "Who is this Clarkson person anyway?". Like I said, I'll watch it with an open mind and hope the powers-that-be haven't made it into a complete joke. I just hope the 'pretty boy' in the new team isn't some talentless celeb-without-portfolio who's only claim to fame is winning Big Brother or some other dross g020.gif

IMHO John, they will be comparing the new presenter to that total knob Clarkson, " Its not the same without Clarkson " blah blah blah. But one things for sure, i wont be tuning in to watch.

ill watch it to see if it can live up to the past! (speaking of which the final episode of Clarkson Top Gear is Sunday 28th!!!!!)

talk is that Guy Martin might join the new team? Now, I love watching him and the way he is. I think he would make a superb bloke to have on the show..but I don't see any chemistry between him and Evans.

In fact I never see any chemistry between anyone and Evans because that ginger tw@ is always giving it the big "I AM"!

 

the thing about the top gear trio is that they all fitted a specific niche...planned and very carefully thought out, they played to their given roles for shits and giggles and it worked superbly well!

You've only to watch each of them in their own tv appearances to see the changes they make for Top Gear; for sure they don't need to stretch their acting too far to fit the given roles..but they play them up perfectly.

You will simply never find another trio who can, or are willing to, do that!

and if you do force it, it will simply become, "three people trying to be Clarkson, Hammond and May!"

 

Evans will never ever fit that kind of system...he is always Evans....that's his brand!

Guy Martin and Jodi Kidd are the same....
