Just been reported that Chris Evans has signed a 3-year deal to present Top Gear with a new cast. Wondering how that will pan out since he is a confirmed petrol-head....

If you listen in regularly to his Radio 2 morning show (which I tend to do) it would be no real surprise. He's a massive fan of TG and has been angling for this for some time now. Could be good for the show, Clarkson had run his course.

Our chief weapon is surprise

The sort of presenter who has me reaching for the "off" switch.

As far as I am concerned he is the right choice - I never watch the programme

I usually avoid anything he's in. It's always the Chris Evans show. I'll give it a try, but I'm not optimistic. He's an enthusiastic collector of Ferraris, but having a large and valuable record collection doesn't make you John Peel. Will anyone care what he thinks of a car?

We will have to see who the other presenters are. I think it's going to have to be a complete new format because the old show was entirely based on the three personalities and the chemistry between them. That will be challenging, because all of the other car show formats are awful or attract no viewers, usually both. TG had an unusually large and unusually broad audience, with more women and more young people than is typical (having a female presenter like 5th Gear doesn't seem to help in that respect). So I guess they have the choice of trying a path upon which most have failed or looking a bit like a crap covers band.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

The only presenter they could have chosen - to guarantee I will never watch it again. Odious little ****

Odious little ****

You are in good company with your choice of words. Saw a BBC interview of Prince Charles once, during which their "Royal Correspondent" (referring to Nicholas Witchell) was mentioned. HRH 's response was "odious little man" which we thought was hilarious. BBC have not replaced Mr Witchell, though, and every time NW appears on BBC news we remember the quote.

you simply cant replace Jessa, Hamster and Cpt Slow!

and you certainly cant do it with Chris Evans!

ill give it a chance but I highly doubt it will hit the highs that it did before the big split!

I will however be eagerly champing at the bit to see the new series that the unholy trio are working on!

Well that's the final nail in the top gear coffin, I won't be watching it with Evans presenting, he'll probably have his usual "posse" of ass kissers bigging him up on the show "ooh chris your so right and wonderful".

The beeb just don't get it, it was the chemistry and banter between the three presenters that made the show (and of course Clarkson and Wilman who were the brains behind it) You can't replace that with the likes of Chris Evans petrolhead or not.
