"Crucian Carp are becoming an endangered fish across the country. In order to give these fish the best chance of survival we chose ponds that would allow to them flourish around Cheshire."

I had no idea that crucians were considered as 'becoming endangered'.

As I understood it for many years past the only Crucian Carp that are accepted as being true bred as opposed to some form of hybrid come from one fishery or lake somewheres down South. I cannot remember exactly where but I do remember a bit of discussion about them on one of the forums in relation to records and how these fish were the only ones accepted for Crucian records.

But then I could be wrong. I usually am.

the thing i cant understand is if you order crucian and get brown goldfish the trades description act isnt involved! clubs and the EA are willfully destroying true crucians by excepting brown goldfish and turning a blind eye ,some crucian are so filled with goldfish they turn gold (and fight like a wet towel)

i noticed some strange coloured ones on a stocking and asked the EA chap why they were different ,he said some were naturally different.

these "different" crucian very soon turned goldfish red and stayed in the middle of the shoal when it went visiting ,they are now c3.5 lbs and growing fast

i know of a lake in the stoke area which holds true crucians albeit only a few, the biggest is about 3 1/2lbs, i would share the info but i don't think the chairman of the club would be very pleased

They were probably not pure bred curcians, especially if they were in the same water as ornamentals
