Well I've spent a week swimming in (and probably drinking) from the planets own giant highly diluted homeopathic bottle and I feel fantastic!

The views and walks were pretty good too.

Perhaps they should be injected with the virus so they can demonstrate the sort of "leap of faith" that this guy did.

leap of faith and courage

To disprove the belief that Helicobacter Pylori could not survive in the acidic environment of the stomach, Dr Barry Marshall performed an experiment on himself in July 1984 that for ethical reasons he could not ask any healthy person to do.

He was first checked for bacterial infection and tested negative. He then swallowed a 3 day culture of Helicobacter Pylori. As he expected, seven days later he started feeling sick with headaches, nausea, episodes of vomiting and really bad breath.

Although he didn’t develop an ulcer, he did suffer from gastritis (stomach inflammation). After ten days, tests showed that the H. pylori bacterium had established itself in Dr Marshall's stomach. After 2 weeks, Dr Marshall began taking an antibiotic and he was back to normal within twenty-four hours.

His bold experiment was a success as he had proved that a healthy person could easily be infected by H. pylori.

Somehow, I doubt they'd be rolling up their shirt sleaves.

Dont have the time to read all the posts but having kids with allergies we tended to use Homeopathy for minor ailments. The Rescue remedy worked a treat, and I dont mind if its a placebo affect, it worked and I was prepared to pay a couple of quid for it. I do however object to claims that any alternative or complimentary medicine is the new wonder cure.

Here we go again.......

the BBC article said they wanted open debate. As has been demonstrated here, thats not possible as there are so many closed minds.

Without going over the same old arguments again, when it comes down to it, anybody can believe in whatever they like when it comes to their own health. The only important issue (in the UK) is whether or not the NHS is prepared to fund your treatment if you can't or won't pay for it yourself. The NHS quite rightly demands that solid scientific evidence exists for treatments that it funds (apparent exceptions being the Homoeopathic Hospitals, which as I've already suggested, are probably only funded because the Royal Family has put in a good word).

If you pay for it yourself, nobody is stopping you taking with whatever remedy you like - and if it works for you, it works for you. Just don't make the mistake of assuming that it's going to work for everybody.

I think you missed the news article corydoras posted up Davy hence the threads revival. Here it is......

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7122370.stm

No, I didn't miss it. I was just pointing out that if anybody wants to try whatever they like to treat themselves with (including homoeopathy for HIV), it's up to them, as long as they don't expect the NHS to fund it if it doesn't reach the required standard of evidence.

Plenty of drug treatments don't reach that standard (or aren't cost-effective), and they aren't eligible for funding either.
