For Those Astronomically Inclined...

Cory,

Looks like you are going to have to answer to both Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein, To maintain formation geosynchronous satalites in orbit must FLY.

It is this same principle. You weigh less on the second floor of your house than you do on the first floor of your house.

Phone

No Phone, both Newton and Einstein are on my side here. If it's in orbit it's not flying. Period.

I'm waiting for news reports of some bombing or earthquake when we are told that many people were injured by glass in decaying orbit ;)

Now your being silly.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Now your being silly.

Just yanking your chain a bit ;)

Point is that words can have domain specific meanings which are more particular than their general meanings. It's like pulling people up for using "fruit" or "berry" or "tree" in their day to day meanings and not their strict botanical definitions.

Something I educated my offspring about. They know for example that strawberries and blackberries are not true berries, but that tomatoes, cucumbers and avocados are.

If you think I am fussy about my words you should meet my son, he's a "word geek" if ever there was one. He wants to do a MA Etymology and Lexicology. He does not really get that from my side of the family though. Maman is the really clever one.

Education is knowing that tomatoes and cucumbers are fruits.

Intelligence is not putting them in a fruit salad.
