I like boxing. Throughout the years there as been plenty of manipulation in the sport as the "oversite" is the fox watching the chicken coop....

 

Vagabond, a few "champions" have been just that. Boxers have been compared not only for a (skill?) level but also on social issues. How do you think Ali (Casius Clay) would fair today. Answer: opposed the war (despised for it) and became a lightning rod; converted to Islam (try that in public in 2015); and "floated like a butterfly, sting like a bee" is in the first chapter of modern Philosophy texts. Perhaps the best "social commentator" was Jim Johnson and his white wife. WOZZER !!

Marciano himself said something like that in an interview in the early 1960s - a very realistic chap.

 

He might have been "only" 13 stone, but punched well above his weight.

 

A search of his fights will show a very high proportion won by knockout (over 80% I believe) and many of those by a knockout in Round 1

 

Defended his title six times against some very able heavyweights. Very sensible of him to retire when he did.

True, just as "pop" singers are consulted on all issues from climate change to how to eat spaghetti

 

However, I was referring to one boxer and one boxer only. As in the case of Clay/Ali I can admire his boxing skill whilst disagreeing with his views.

Oh, I can sum up my feelings toward Hanoi Jane pretty easily. At one time, you could get stickers with her face imprinted on them and we decorated the inside of urinals with them to provide a point of aim.
