Carp farm

Breakfast visited the first organic carp farm in Britain. Jimmie Hepburn and his wife Penny saw a gap in the market as the increasing strain on popular fish such as cod, haddock and salmon takes it toll.

I have done and it was OK.

 

I keep on meaning to have a look at the lips on the carp sold at Birmingham fish market because I rather doubt that when your local comercial replaces its fish every few years, the old stock go off to some great carpy retirement pond.

I have my supicions abput where they end up though.

Species caught in 2018: Perch. Bream. Rainbow Trout. Brown Trout. Chub. Roach. Carp. European Eel.

Species caught in 2017: Siamese carp. Striped catfish. Rohu. Mekong catfish. Amazon red tail catfish. Arapaima. Black Minnow Shark. Perch. Chub. Brown Trout. Pike. Bream. Roach. Rudd. Bleak. Common Carp.

Species caught in 2016: Siamese carp. Jullien's golden carp. Striped catfish. Mekong catfish. Amazon red tail catfish. Arapaima. Alligator gar. Rohu. Black Minnow Shark. Roach, Bream, Perch, Ballan Wrasse. Rudd. Common Carp. Pike. Zander. Chub. Bleak.

Species caught in 2015: Brown Trout. Roach. Bream. Terrapin. Eel. Barbel. Pike. Chub.

Why not?

 

Its eaten all around the world, its just down to Personal taste and your veiw of whats exepterble as food and what isnt.I could not eat Dog, Whale, and would Rather not eat Horse But to be honest they are cultural Hang ups more than any thing else. Although I am a conservation minded Angler.If isnt a threatend speacies I would give it a go if offered

The eating course fish debate comes around regulaly, and always gets a wiggle out of poeple on AN.

Someone once said to me "Dont worry It could be worse." So I didn't, and It was!

Yup. I don't really like fish, but if you are hungry enough you will eat just about anything. Edited by corydoras

Nothing against it in principle but, to me, it tastes disgusting. Not a patch on zander or perch. :)

As for carp I'll eat anyfish that is sustainably managed.
