Retired people could do work for pensions

So says Lord Bichard, a former benefits chief,

REPORT HERE

Retired people could be encouraged to do community work such as caring for the "very old" or face losing some of their pension, a peer has suggested.

Lord Bichard, a former benefits chief, said "imaginative" ideas were needed to meet the cost of an ageing society.

And although such a move might be controversial, it would stop older people being a "burden on the state".

And what about him and his like being a burdon on the state, claiming their huge expenses and equally huge pensions, total utter PARASITE, people like him make my blood boil.

Lord Bichard can F*** right off - I've done my bit - and I've paid my contributions towards being a "burden" on the state - not my fault if they've pizzed my contributions up the wall.

Note the news item is four years old, and as we have heard no more, presumably the lead balloon analogy applies.

Interesting that we huntin' shootin' and fishin' yokels used to be referred to as "the salt of the earth", but now are seen as a "burden on the state"

A bit like one or two of my many life-memberships . Years ago the cash up front was welcomed, but now, the money is spent, what it was spent on is forgotten, and at the AGM up pops some bright spark who suggests "these life members contribute nothing to our club"

Never mind, we old codgers still do a bit of voluntary work, not because we are scared of losing our pensions, not even because we love our fellow men, but simply as a means of keeping mind and body ticking over.

It is amazing how the "Great and the Good" always seem to think the rest of us should contribute time/cash/effort into "improving" society, but one rarely sees the said G & G setting any sort of philanthropic example.

Both my parents and my mrs dad i expect would love to be a burden ,like thousands of others all three never got a penny of their pensions due to getting a bit dead before they could draw on it ,what happened to their share of the pot i dont see the government clammering to pass on this bit of money to their decendants ,probably goes towards the subsidised bars in westminster

There is no "pot" to share.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

No there is not and there in no "National Insurance" scheme. Those in work payed the pensions of pensioners from direct taxation. There is no pot and not one penny that we pay in Nat Ins is hypothecated.
