A few hours out yesterday.....

I had a couple of hours on a local lake outlet today, had loads of dace and chub from 6 ounce'ish to about 3lb. I was testing a float out for a float maker, the floats are called Triac floats and are quite unique in their shape and camo finnish. The floats come in various sizes and choice stems etc. I think Glenn "the maker" is selling them on ebay in case anyone is interested in them.

I took a picture of the first two dace I caught and then at the end of my session I retained the last few fish for a picture with one of Glenns floats.

My session was interrupted by a party pooper who tried to eat one of the fish in the net making quite a nasty mess of it...poor chub! That chub was the last fish I caught as after several more trotts through the swim I had no more bites so obviously esox had decided to hang out in the swim and had put an end to the party.

And - What float?

Its the small stick like thing between the fish and the reel Phone,

This is what we British anglers use for trotting on rivers unlike our friends across the pond who seem to use huge bulbous bobbers Lol.

Tigger,

I can't enlarge your photos. And - What float?

Phone

Sorry Phone, the pictures aren't very good. If you go back to page 18 you may be able to see some floats in those pictures, maybe you can enlarge them? Those floats are a little different to the one in my last pics. The floats on page 18 are called bolo floats and are my prefered floats. In their various sizes etc bolo floats cover just about all my river float fishing.

Guys,

Can't tell if Tigger is pulling my chain, I know what a flipping dink float looks like. I was trying to get a look at the "camo" floats you are testing. Are they in the picture.

Keith, You should be ashamed. Look at my last post in the thread "dink fishing". I'm on a roll - porcupine quills, tubing, tiny little swivels you fking can't hold onto, 0.9 bs mainline. It's gonna be the new me cause i got a new mate wanting to give it a go.

Phone

I've drawn the line at size 8 hooks.

Yes size 8 are very big ,16-18 fine for the tiddlers down the pond with 1.5lb hooklengh (been to 24 on bright days)',14's with a pinch of bread down the river straight through 3lb line cant go any finer the trout know all the weedy places to snag up in!

I wonder if american sizes are equivilent to those awful animal hooks who seem to claim to be 2 sizes smaller than reality?

Phone, I honestly thought you couldn't see the floats LOL.

This afternoon I went back to the swim where I had all those barbel last week and I was hopeing to catch some more today. We had a lot of rain after last Friday afternoon when i'd last visited this river and it had risen the best part of 10ft between then and today but had dropped back down to about a foot over the level it was when I last fished it. I could feel the difference in the temprature of the river as soon as I waded out in it and when I put my hand in the water it felt really cold...not good for barbel. It turned out the cold temp's had killed off the barbel fishing and all I caught was a trout, a grayling, some minnows and the chub in the picture. The grayling was about a pound and a half and was a gorgeous looking specimen having lovely colours and a huge fin.

I had no choice of where position the reel on that rod Martin, but even on rods with sliding bands I still position it in that spot. Edited by Tigger
