On a personal irritating point what would happen if a GB athlete who was English draped the St George round his neck on his lap of honour would he get the same admiration as the weshman or scottish woman ?

As we are a collection of countries why just go in as the uk why not put four times the athletes in as seperate countries then tot them up under the uk banner ,just as brussels thinks it can ,add in the commonwealth countries and we may just top the medals chart if theres any reason to do so?

LOL. When a Scots, Welsh or Northern Irish team or individual do well they are "British". When they do poorly they are Scots, Welsh or Northern Irish.

Quite incredible that a small world country in the world like GB is beating China in the medals table being second.

LOL. China is doing really crap and that makes you think UK is doing well? We are doing well, but we should really be behind China.

How do you work that out?

They beat us by a country mile in 08. They beat is by a much smaller margin in 12 and now we are beating them. That's the way success works - by increments.

Our success comes on the back of wider non-Olympic sporting success in tennis, athletics, golf, cycling and other sports.

Hopefully in a post Brexit world where free movement and working rules will no longer make it illegal for the EPL to limit the number of non-British players fielded by premiership clubs, we will also be able to foster enough home grown footballing talent to lead he world in football as well.

Are we beating them because we are being exceptionally good or because the are

doing exceptionally bad?

 

 

Spanish, Italian, French and all the other European clubs suffer under the same regime. Does Spain have problems being "able to foster enough home grown footballing talent"

 

How come their National squads can beat the hell out of ours most of the time?

 

Oh and Don't mention the Scottish squad. We're crap and we know it ;-)
