If you dont see how a lack of analysis can affect an opinion! Its a good job you are not a Dr, you have a opinion formed on nothing what so ever,and seem to be unable to defend it but put it into the mix any way.

 

You dont have a personal Veiwpiont That would involve a decision, a decesion formed without analysys is worthless in the real world.

 

Bye the way you have been argueing a point with me for a fair bit of this thread a bit of analysis would have helped you realise that.

theres a hell of a lot of dead people because of doctors opinions (my mum died because a doctors opinion of her case was wrong) and a hell of a lot of people in prison who shouldn't be because of "experts" opinions ,its not wrong to have an opinion (right or wrong) in everyday life but most ordinary peoples opinions are dissed (which could be right) in favour of "experts" opinions which can be wrong

opinions is good when its not involving a persons future,doubting experts is better it keeps them honest (unfortunately most people take their words as truth) .

in an experts hands their opinion that black is white can no doupt be "proved" or "statistics" found that back their claim or some silly souls just except it is ,we know though it isnt.... dont we

And that is your opinion that you have stated and and supported with good reason!

 

An opinion hasnt got to be right on a forum Chesters, But to have Submited one that you have admited, isnt informed or considerd I find Strange!

 

What are you adding to The Debate? apart from A banal statement totaly unsupported by any fact or Substance.

This last bit of this thread is the reason why I usually stay clear of them.

 

 

The way I see it is.

Some people have opinions based on research, either their own, (or more commonly someone elses). That can be anything from newspaper articles, books, TV, or papers based on the findings of 'experts'.

Some base their opinions on personal experiences.

Then their are those who base it on a mixture of all of the above, (in varying degrees).

Add to this the influences of family and peers while growing up, (which can 'taint' your thinking on any subject), and you have a typical AN thread.

 

I, (like many on here) have a distrust of statistics, feeling that bias (conscious or not) has a tendency to influence the final figures.

 

I have read articles, papers, reviews etc, and on many occasions, my final conclusion has differed from that of the person who wrote it.

Does that make me, (or the author) wrong?

I don't believe that it makes either of us wrong, it just means that we are seeing the findings from different angles.

 

To chastise someone for not producing a reference to back up their viewpoint, I feel is very shortsighted.

Although not the 'scientific' way, I believe that any opinion is valid, and goes towards building a more complete overall view of any subject.

As I've said before on here, don't be too quick to dismiss what to you is just anecdotal 'evidence', it's personal experience to someone else.

 

I very rarely post 'facts', preferring to offer my opinion instead.

Whether my opinion fits in with other peoples researched 'facts' is of little interest to me, but I am more interested in their opinion. It helps me build up a picture of that person, and get to 'know' them a little better. (You could say, form an opinion of them. ).

 

As for arguments, well I can accept anyones right to an opinion...but would hope that they accept my right to have a different one.

An excellent summing up John.

 

I have saved my neck on several occasions by following that very unsupported, unscientific route called a gut feeling, this is usually based on a very wide spectrum of information sources but nothing specific.

 

As you quite rightly say everyone is entitled to an opinion.
