Wingham Fish-In

Steve Burke

Recommended Posts

Yesterday the Coarse Lake produced an 8-06 tench. It was covered with leeches and so had only just woken up. It was long and slim after the winter, and being one of the light green ones and virtually unmarked is almost certainly one that was born at Wingham. It can therefore be no more than 12 years old so hopefully has another 3 years of growth in length, before fattening up. Of course it'll fatten up before the Fish-In as it'll now get its head down.

The previous day the Carp Lake threw up a new 40lber, the fourth fish that has reached this weight. This was a mirror, although one of the forties is a common.

Not a bad fish for mid-March! Blimey. If this nice spring continues, this year's fish-in could produce some VERY good fish B)

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Steve, is that the first Tench out of your water this year ? What a crumpin fish for so early on in the year, just think what it'll weigh in at in a couple of months........ :o . I reckon you've got some tench sailing around in Wingham that would surprise even yourself !

It was the 2nd one. The first was a 6lber three weeks ago.

This is a reminder that if you want to come to the Wingham Fish-In this year you must have made at least one post by the time I open for applications. It need only be a hello to introduce yourself though.

Applications are likely to start about May 1st depending on when I'm at home rather than working round the lakes. The Fish-In itself is from Saturday May 16th to Monday May 18th.

As for why I don't accept applications any earlier, it's because I've found that there are too many cancellations. This means extra work at what is anyway a very busy time.

As the event was well over-subscribed last year I expect the same to happen again this year. Priority will be given to those who missed out last year. Next in line will be those who haven't been before. However it'll be 1st come 1st served.

So do watch out for an announcement around May 1st!

Steve has asked me to post that he'll probably be taking bookings from Friday of next week, 1st May. He and the bailiffs are very busy at the moment getting everything ready, although Glyn is on crutches. Everything is late this year because the ground is still water-logged, but all should be ready on time. Then after the fish-in they can turn their attention to the back lake (that is not open for fishing) and that requires a fair bit of maintenance.

Do watch out for an announcement on Friday of next week.

Thanks for the heads up Peggy. I look forward to seeing you in a few weeks. I only wish I could help out more. I feel useless stuck up here in the midlands while your all working so hard to accomodate us.
