  1. Here's a longshot: Right click on any blank part of the desktop and select properties if you can. The display properties window should open, and if you are lucky, you might just be able to select the settings tab. Then try and set a higher resolution such as 1024 by 768.
  2. When I showed this to my seven year old daughter she only saw a girl. When I told her the meaning of the French on the label, she immediately saw the dolphins.
  3. Happy Birthday Leon and congratulations on reaching the big 60! Nice picture. Which is you?
  4. Very good Newt. I reckon it took me about 30 secs to see the dolphins.

    Perch

quote: However, on some waters dendras are used a fair bit, which is why, apart from habit, I mostly use the more difficult to obtain lobs. I get 50 lobs from my local tackle shop for £7. It sounds alot, but it saves me having to collect them. I find they keep for weeks if I re-soil them. I've still got 3 lobs I bought in October, along with 50 new ones I haven't started yet. Failing your tackle shop you can get lobs and other worms mail order from here.
  6. It sounds a fair deal to me, Tyke. I don't think we should be adopting the massive claim culture which we seem to have started and it sounds like a fair explanation. Mind you it was wood from fruit packaging this time, so what's to stop it being partially decomposed rat next time! Did anyone read that article about a sausage factory in the Daily Mail just before Christmas? Frightening! My uncle, who is a farmer, always told me not to eat meat pies, sausages and burgers unless you see them being made.

    Flu bug

Sorry to hear you are so unwell with this nasty flu. Have you tried a good decongestant from the chemists like Mucron or Sudafed? Be careful some of the branded pills are combined with paracetamol which are best to avoid so you don't overdose on the stuff.
  8. quote: quote from grumpybum : 4 staff nurses and 1 sister spent god knows how much time just stood there chatting. 2 doctors again spent a lot of time just sitting there staring at the wall. I wont mention one who actually fell asleep. I have the greatest respect for nurses - they do a fantastic job for not a lot of money too. However like many professions and working environments, the discipline has simply gone. 50 years ago I bet you wouldn't find nurses having time to chat when at work. My view is that if you are employed to work a set number of hours a week, then apart from lunch and sensible breaks, you should actually be working. As to the doctors, if they were junior doctors, then they were probably trying to get some rest during a quiet spell in their 80 hour week.
  9. Yes. Many thanks indeed to Elton ands he crew for this great all round angling web-site.
  10. Thanks for tips on the CMOS battery chesters1. I think mine's fully run out and I do turn off the PC from time to time. Sometimes it starts up again fine, but other times it takes about three goes to start up cleanly, so I'm a little suspicious as to what's going on.
  11. quote: was doing quite a bit of work on mine yesterday and became concerned that it had been on for a long time. I rarely turn my PC off!! Last time I had mine apart I used a hoover and it still seems OK. I'll use an air duster next time though! I've got to find and replace the CMOS battery on the motherboard soon as it's run out, which is one of the main reasons I don't turn it off at the moment!
  12. It's not a car, but the most unusual vehicle I've driven was a 1960's caterpillar tractor for rolling and disking on a large farm I was working on in 1984. I can't remember the make now, but we had two. They don't have steering wheels and I had a five minute lesson before having to get on with the job. I recall that the roller and disk unit was so old that it had wooden bearings which used a gallon of grease each day!

    can i do it?

Yes. Have a look at this thread. Although it's about pike rods, which have a different action, carp rods are also mentioned.
  14. It just takes one to ruin it for everyone else! How about approaching the landowner through a local club. They could explain that they would ensure no member did such an irresponsible thing and that a bailiff would regularly check on the state of the fishery and the anglers. This could also be beneficial to the landowner in that they would keep trespassers away and could keep an extra eye on the land and livestock too. Alternatively, why not try and get permission just for yourself and maybe one or two responsible friends.
  15. I doubt I would claim. I usually only fish seriously when I am on my own and I do not carry accurate scales. If I did catch a record, I would probably just weigh it as best I could, take lots of photos and put it back. If there was some-one around with better scales, then I'd consider getting it weighed with them, depending if I thought that person would keep stum. I doubt I would make an official claim; for a start I haven't a clue what you have to do to make a valid claim in the first place.

    Chain e-mail

Don't worry I deleted it, but not before I replied telling them what I thought about sending chain e-mails. I put read receipt on it and some-one has actually read my reply, so maybe they will even respond.
  17. Judy Off topic, I know, but can you recommend a good first aid kit please. I haven't liked the contents of any I've seen lately and so make up our own with individual bits. We need one for the car and one for indoors. The one in the car is is getting a bit old now as it came out of a 1972 German registered Simca. (Car first aid kits are compulsory in Germany).
  18. Congratulations Koi. I think you should look into doing a little six lesson (I think) course called "Pass Plus". This should help your insurance premium dramatically. Best to check with a few insurance companies and see what they say.
  19. Some people, eh!! However even if you call the Police on 999 with a real emergency, the centralised call centre have no local knowledge and often haven't a clue what you are talking about. In my town many of streets have one word names. If you call the police (I am a Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator and am often asked by residents to call in crimes) this alone gets them well confused. Bring back local policing and call centres I say!!
  20. I was generalising a bit too much probably, Bushwacker. What I was trying to suggest is that there are lots of reasons why people in our society resort to drugs, crime, theft and violence and there is no simple solution. Treating the symptoms won't solve the problem. I think that it would take many years to put the respect we used have back into society, assuming we could even tackle the issues successfully.
  21. In the days when ten bob was ten bob, that was a staggering amount of money!! I hate to think what he thought he was paying for.
  22. I received a chain e-mail yesterday alleged from the michael.howard@conservatives.com. of the Conservative Party. It was titled "I believe" and at the bottom it says : quote: In order that this messages goes to as many people as possible please send this email on to ten friends by filling in their email address below Isn't this irresponsible e-mailing? I'd also be interested to know how they obtained my e-mail address in the first place.
  23. It must be just certain parts of the country, but still a sorry state of affairs though. It's not like that here in Hertfordshire. Mind you last time I went to the hospital there wasn't enough security. Anyone could wander in and do whatever they wanted to! I don't think there is an easy answer. Social inequality, poverty, poor education, low policing levels, an inadequate justice system, consumerism, etc., etc. all contribute to the kind of society we have created for ourselves. I have no idea how we can undo it. At the risk of offending our American cousins, isn't it worse in the big US cities.
  24. Does feel like a piece of plastic, or does the makers claim seem possible. If it was me I would carve a small piece off and see if it dissolves in warm water. I'd also try and melt a bit with a fine soldering iron or a hot needle. You might be able to smell or see if it's plastic that way.
