    hooks

If anyone knows of a manufacturer that makes eyed 24's I'd be suprised. It's almost imposible to make very small hooks with an eye so they come with a spade. Spades also allow significantly better presentation and stronger knots on small hooks. Between sizes 14 and 8 it's purely down to choice. For anything bigger than an 8, an eye is going to provide a more secure knotting point almost every time.
  2. If you thought that "Hunter" only made overpriced flimsy rubber wellies for toffs with more money than sence.... Think again ! They also make spectacularly overpriced leather wellies for toffs. http://www.farkit.co.uk/pages/hunter_leath...n_signature.htm [ 15. September 2005, 09:40 PM: Message edited by: Ken L ]
  3. It's that evil Fagin/Uncle Abraham bloke that you've got to watch out for. He'll distract you, get you staring at his riduculous white hair, stupid beard and bubble pipe while the little blue beggars ransack your house.

  5. HDTV is already up and running in the US, Japan and Australia – albeit with differences in the systems they are using. For movies, it’s a simple case of capturing a HD copy of the film image for broadcast and most major networks have been producing HD compatible content for a couple of years. When HD broadcasting goes live, there is no lack of material ready and waiting to be broadcast. I saw early lazer disc based demonstrations of the Japanese system about 15 years ago and most impressive it is too. If anyone living near Birmingham wants to get some idea of what all the fuss is about, Dixons have had a 50” LG Plasma running in the doorway of their Bullring store for a couple of months and that’s running a HD demo to impress the punters. Very impressive it is too – “Like looking through a window” as one mate of mine described it [ 15. September 2005, 05:14 PM: Message edited by: Ken L ]
  6. Gentlemen, don't forget that in asia, carp ponds only exist to provide a readily available source of fresh fish for the table. Most are small and however they're caught, they very quickly become aquainted with soy sauce, ginger and spring onions.
  7. I've just read the BBC's Q&A on digital TV. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/t...dio/4248774.stm What a joke. They're still trotting out the cr@p about digital TV offering better pictures. I know this is bit like the old vinyl vs CD debate but having had chance to compare a really good analogue picture side by side with Sky on a good quality CRT TV, believe me it's not true. They're also finally waking up to the fact that a lot of older people are not looking forward to a switch off of anologue services and don't own TV's that can accept a SCART and can't afford a replacement set. The funniest thing though is that they're absolutely desperate to try to avoid any mention of HDTV which is due to start rolling out next year. They keep foegetting to include obvious sections in their Q&A briefs. Q: I've just gone out and spent three grand in a brand new plasma TV with an integrated digital digital decoder. Will it be obsolete before analogue broadcasting is even turned off ? A: Yes !
  8. Anyone seen the clip with the Marlin that jumps into the boat ?
  9. I had a pike of about 5lb last year that took a lure. Althoughit didn't swallow the hooks, they were a fair way down and on removing them (they wern't oversized and didn't even have particularly big barbs), the fish began bleeding heavily. It was 10 minutes before I was going home so I knocked him on the head and after a quick seach on the net for instructions on how to remove the "Y-Bones", he was fileted, skinned, cut into slices, covered with breadcrumbs and dipped in tartar sauce. Very nice he was too - but I wouldn't make a habbit of killing and eating pike because with more and more predator anglers on the bank, there would be no pike left if everyone did it.
  10. Them calipers and orthopaedic shoes chaff something terible. Did he use the puppy as an insole ?
  11. Great ! Just sent an e-mail with the subject line "Naked Ladies !!!! to a mate. Nice simple text too. "G'day mate. Found this site with some of the hottest women I've ever seen. Some of Asian girls are stunning. http://www.richstevens.com/NAKED.swf Ken"

    Acronyms

A little over 10 years ago, I was living and working in the northeast. At that time, the polly’s were becoming universities and there was already a Newcastle University in town. Rumour has it that they got as far as preparing all the headed paperwork, ordering the new entrance signs and drafting the press release about the change from Newcastle Polly to the City University of Newcastle upon Tyne” before anybody noticed the acronym. Personally, I wish they’d gone for it. T-shirt sales alone would have funded some of the best education in Europe. [ 14. September 2005, 11:31 AM: Message edited by: Ken L ]
  13. Personally I'd have thought that one of the first jobs for an new agency like FEMA would have been to work out how to obtain waivers for certain rules in the event of an emergency. Having doctors and nurses sitting around for a week because they're not licenced and or insured to practice in a neighboring state is unacceptable. Having rations sat on a runway is insane but so is the inability of central government to comendere suplies and transportation from the folks that distribute them anyway - the big supermarket chains. America needs to look long and hard at how it facilitates aid within it's own boarders and once that's resolved, it needs to look at warehousing rations, tents, medical suplies, coldweather gear, water purifiers etc so that what's needed can be selected by the palet and marshalled for immediate dispatch to disaster victims whether at home or abroad.
  14. Yep, Brum is a 5h1te hole and going downhill faster than a fat bloke on rollerblades.
  15. Off the boil a bit now but a few years ago, Jenny Powell was sex on legs !
  16. Wow Slashey, current chart CD's delivered at prices from £4.99 is impressive to say the least. How long have you been using them and are they reliable ? [ 11. September 2005, 02:31 PM: Message edited by: Ken L ]
  17. I've never met the man but he has informed many of the online angling discussions on here and cracked a few jokes along the way. I'd like to sincerly wish Alan and a speedy recovery but if that's not possible, I'd wish him at least a dignified end.
  18. And no messing about with .RAR and .RAW files and trying to decode them. You've mentioned it before. Thanks for that. [ 11. September 2005, 11:00 AM: Message edited by: Ken L ]
  19. Start off by ripping your own CD collection, then your mates, then goe to the library and rip theirs. You can download almost anything off the net with 10 spare mintes and a search engine but the download police are outthere and might come knocking on your door. I do download audio but only music/comedy that is difficult or impossible to get hold of in the UK.
  20. Buying CD's from the big supermakets is a perfectly reasonable alternative to being constantly ripped off by the likes of HMV, Virgin etc. The only drawback is the range of stuff on offer. Fortunatly, on-line supliers hold a massive range in stock (especially Play.com who do some pretty obscure stuff) and can knock even supermarked prices into a cocked hat in addition to delivering your disc's directly to your door. Of my usual supliers, the best deal on the new Stones album is £8.75 inclusive of delivery. http://www12.cd-wow.com/detail_results.php...duct_code=20611 Good to here that the Stones are back in form. I loved their stuff from the 60's and 70's but they kinda lost their way for a while. Just a quick edit to add that if you like the bluesy side of the stones, check out some stuff from Albert King. A top bluesman that hardly anyone seems to have heared of. [ 11. September 2005, 10:09 AM: Message edited by: Ken L ]

    Peta.

Not much to moan about. At least it's barbless.
  23. "real dvd's cost £20 plus but copies cost £4 or free" Zenith If you're paying £20 for a DVD, you're being done. If you're paying £4 for a piraye DVD, you're being done up like a kipper ! I have plenty of pirate DVD's that cost me £1.20 each and as Jeepster suggests, most of them are disks that I probably wouldn't have bought otherwise. In addition, as others have noted, some are perfect digital prints while others are dodgy cinema/camcorder jobies that I've only ever watched once. Would I pay £4 each for them ? Not on your nelly. If that's what you're local criminals are charging for a priate disk, I'd stick with budget on-line supliers if I were you. Although I make no appologies for buying them (and I've gone out a brought legit copies of several movies on the basis if auditioning the pirate.) I agree with some of the other sentiments on here. If everyone buys copies, no movies get made. Personally, I'm a regular cinema goer, buy a smattering of DVD's and pick up a few dodgy disks when I'm on my hollidays. I reckon that's a fair balance.
  24. The image of "Giant camel spiders in Iraq" is wiered. The mouthparts appear to move vertically. I'm off to find out more on Google !
