Are PETA right or wrong

LOL It's funny, though - as a parent, you do become quite protective over your own parenting skills. It's like a paranoia - if it's not the state or someone on the internet giving 'advice', it's the bloody in-laws :D

Many years ago when I was training as a teacher, I was on a teaching practice at a school in Letchworth, where a teacher told me that many of the children had never been out into the countryside and didn't realise that there was any connection between the pies and sausages they were eating and real, live animals.

Not quite sure what Letchworth has to do with this, the place is surrounded by farms, there's a farm school thing in the town, and there's tons of cities around with no farms for miles around.

It does however illustrate a gap in education, be it from parents or schools, in some instances. I'm a great fan or the idea that kids know where meat comes from and when they are old enough, get to appreciate the processes involved.

What however is unfair is when parents brainwash kids into becoming vegetarians, when they are not old enough to decide for themselves.

My nine year old recently informed me he was going to be a vegetarian, he lasted about as long as it took me to say "You won't be wanting this then" and picking up and taking a bite out of the burger that was sitting on his plate at the time . . . . . . . .

It could also be claimed that children are brainwashed into becoming carnivores before they are old enough to decide for themselves. In the same was as religion is sometimes force fed. There are no carnivore (or vegetarian) chidren, in the same way as there are no christian (or any other religion) children, there are just children who are socialised into following the practices and beliefs of those who raise them.

you have canines you are designed to eat meat !even apes eat meat and they are regarded as vegitarian

being a vegi is a decision only the person can take eating meat is natural ,parents giving kids meat is natural not brainwashing not giving meat is brainwashing.

its quite simple! food animals eat plants we eat animals ,we can have plants with animals on our plates but no animal at all means we're animals as were eating animal food

Kids don't have the critical faculties necessary to make decisions like that, (undeveloped) heart rules (uninformed) head every time. They need something akin to brain washing otherwise who's responsible when they make the wrong choices?

There was an intensely annoying article in the Guardian the other day regarding the new breed of eco kids who are the ones bullying their stupid middle class parents to recycle and buy Prius's etc. etc . Kids generally go with whatever suits their kidcentric thoughts best and is shouted at them most, don't eat cuddly animals, cos it's cruel and nasty, buy a Prius to save the planet even though the daddy can't afford a new car right now and needs an estate, and actually Prius's aren't actually the answer.

It may be coming clear that I don't like children a great deal, and don't think their views are particularly valid about anything more pressing than what they want for breakfast :)

If this sort of thing has an effect on you then you shouldn't be fishing, hunting or shooting!

lyn

Sorry Lyn,

I fish, and would still shoot could I walk enough to make it viable. Factory farming of the type shown has nothing in common with the country sports I have engaged in. I have killed and eaten my quarry, but wouldn't treat any of it like that, I don't give a fish a death which involved stepping in it, throwing it repeatedly against a wall or dropping it alive into hot water.

Done properly, and it often is, and most significantly that is the intent a dropped deer doesnt even hear the shot which kills it.

I stopped eating factory 'misery' meat over 20 years ago, and whatever health problems I have don't stem from my 90% veggie diet. The 'we have to eat meat' argument is especially weak, and perhaps argued with such enthusiasm as to mask a troubled conscience?

To be fair it's not all like that, in late November I helped out on a farm during the slaughter of 500 free range Turkeys, and although by need it was quick and efficient, it was carried out in a decent way.
