Are PETA right or wrong

It could also be claimed that children are brainwashed into becoming carnivores before they are old enough to decide for themselves.

I encouraged my son to be an omnivore, the same as most of us, but carnivore is a much more emotive word of course. :)

I have to agree with Emma on this. I fish and I also shoot and I have never witnessed wanton cruelty as depicted on that film whilst engaged in either sport. I also (along with my wife and daughter) gave up eating intensively farmed meat and eggs many years ago.

As Jeepster said, sourcing free range eggs isn't difficult (BTW that means free range, not the so called ones available in the supermarkets)

I buy mine from a guy down the road whose chickens run around in fields and woods. (Certain upmarket neighbours get their breakfast eggs from the same source ;)) They are cheaper than supermarkets budget brand. You would think that people would be queuing up for them but he tells me he throws a lot away as most people don't want them, or can't be bothered to make the effort.

Most of the meat we eat is either shot by me or by my friends. We do occasionally buy meat from the local butcher but we know which farm it comes from, the farmers name, how it lived and how and where it died. I understand that most people aren't as fortunate as me, living where I live, but I do feel that most people could do more to source ethically produced meat.

The individuals who really get up my nose though are the ones who rant about "disgusting barbaric cruelty" in field sports and then stop at the super market for a dozen eggs and some bacon, followed by a chicken curry from the carry out.

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

the old farmer i worked fors mrs's uncle (bugger knows what that relation was) bought cage eggs from the local market (when it existed) took them home and wiped a bit of hens crap over them and sold them as "free range" (his chickens freely ranged in a 6ft long cage) and sold them for a handsome profit ,do you know where your food comes from or just trust who tells you where it comes from :D

free range hens tend not to be as productive as battery ones so production tales off in the winter so how can the farmer provide year round eggs? in batteries everyday is the same the sun and weather is not in the equation.

another puzzling thing is farmed salmon its "good" but polutes wild fish and line caught tuna is "good" it saves dolphins but kills albatross ,good is not always "good"

I know where mine comes from, though I do trust the people I buy from too. It is harder to get eggs from smaller suppliers at the moment, the farms near us are hardly selling any eggs at the moment, but there are plenty from some of the bigger free range suppliers, not ideal but better than anything else available. Most of the places I buy meat eggs and milk from welcome visitors and have no secrets :)

i wouldnt trust my own mother to tell the truth 100% of the time so in my view never tells the truth :is cage hen cruel? we are using human emotions ,if cage hens had the first year free range then were caged it would be cruel but the exist their whole lives as nothing more than a factory not an animal they know nothing better.

its the same as a pauper they live their lives as a pauper so find nothing unusual in having such a life.

is a jungle indian poor or well off ,they are poor to us but probably (until we lead them astray) rich to themselves having everything they need ,they dont need money but according to the rich having less than $2? is poor

My feelings precisley. I took my children on shooting days, and fishing where some of the catch would be killed, I wouldn't and didn't take them to any 'fast food joints', McDonalds, KFC etc. Now grown up they eat as widely as they wish, my son married into a farming family and is a shooter/angler and so at least understands the process of how meat ends up on a plate, my daughter does eat some shop bought poultry, but at least takes the time to be reflective about it's source and gives thanks to the goddess (earth) for it.

I know that we have been here before in the forum. I don't judge other's moral standards believing it a matter for individual conscience, however it's difficult not to feel contempt towards those who say I am wrong to knock a fish on the head, yet they appear to have no issue with eating the equivilent of concentration camp victims who have been tortured to death.
