Severn Wolf:

My great Grandfather was born and bred in Wales!!!! Poor sod!

A Nations day should be just that, for the nation. Its only really St Georges that gets knocked because as English we `should know better`!

I see where you`re coming from though. Point taken!

Sadly the true English fled to Wales when invaded by the Vikings. So perhaps the welsh don't realise they are really English?? :D:D  demon

Trafalgar Day would do for me! Also let's make Easter a set date each year End of 1st or 2nd week of April, sod the religious timing], get rid of the May bank holiday and add a Friday off to the Spring bank holiday.

I`m glad you said that Colin!!!!!

My surname is Lloyd which I`ve spent ages trying to convince my mates is not Welsh at all but a name made up by the English who had fled the possible persecution of William the Conqueror and settled in Wales (they must have been pretty desperate eh!)

MJB, we`ve got a German Royal family, Portugese Patron Saint, whats wrong with having a Kiwi in on the act eh :)

"how about land of hope and glory as an anthem"

No argument from me there. Keep "God save the queen" as a union anthem and adopt "Land of hope and glory" as an official (It's the unofficial one anyway) English national anthem.

The cyncics amongst us might think

'Land of no hope and very little glory' - but you'd find it hard to sing that to the tune.

I'd prefer 'Rule Britannia' - as for St George's Day as a public holiday - it gets my vote.

As for Easter being a movable feast, erm No. It's the most important festival in the Christian calendar.

This is a signature, there are many signatures like it but this one is mine

To believe in Saints you really need to be a Catholic and this is why England doesn't celebrate a Saints day, not really sure why the Scots have St Andrews day really as there are less Catholics up here than there are in England.

What you need to do is move to the North isles of Orkney (Outside of the Peoples republic of Orkney) where we just ignore all bank holidays anyway.

Bottom line is, if its a nice day go fishing, if its not do some work!!!!
