Wanna Catch a Grayling??

Excited? Too darn right I am! Me and my mate Daz (whose comming with me were both working at the Kent Angling Show this weekend and couldnt stop talking about it! He has never caught a Grayling before and I havnt had the chance for many years.The only fish I have caught were from the Little Avon at Charfield (near Bristol) when I was about 12 and a couple of fish out of the small carrier that runs nexrt to the cannal at Kintbury back in the mid 80's.Long been a desire of mine to fish a classic chalk stream for coarse fish and you dont get any more classic than the Test.I intend to fish traditional style with a 14'stick rod,my trusty old pin a loafer float and red maggots,well till I get bored of grayling then the roach or maybe the pike will take up the rest of my day.

 

Looking forward to it that much that when Martin Bowler was trying to talk to me about Cats all I could go on about was Grayling!Fair play to Martin though he gave me some good info on another good Grayling venue on the Itchen so if Saturday doesnt satisfy me I will have a trip down there with him.

My local shop probably wouldn't have them anyhow, if you ask for anything other than peeler or lugworm they look at you as if you are mad!

As you can see from the responses, both Chris and Glenn have been examining the contents of my bait box!! The pink and orange disco maggots have both done very, very well for Grayling.

I take it they is hook to nylon cos otherwise you will have to tie um for me.

Actually Paul I'd never heard of Discos! Had to search for them on the 'net.

 

Makes sense though, they're very visible I guess which is useful in fast running water.
