Thats what I would have thought Dave, but that roof has been covered for a couple of weeks before last night. Gutter is still dripping

perhaps he's opened his loft hatch to save his pipes?

we have icicles on the gutters but no thawing as far as we can see perhaps its very slight just the difference between the tiles temp one side to the other.

the biggest ones are beside the sewage pipe vent and under the boiler chimney ,we knock them off but they're back by next morning even when the temps below freezing

theres an interesting solar calculator on that site ,i used my postcode and the first panel on the drop down ,i could run a very small lamp

except of course i couldn't as it tends to be dark when lamps are used

It seemed warm here yesterday morning, but cooled down later, and now snowing again It was snowing as I drove in to work and Hertfordshire are obviously on salt rations because a lot of the big roads were covered in snow. Glad to come in earlier, as no doubt grid lock will ensue shortly...

It's pretty much thawed on the paths and roads here, with just the fields still covered in snow. We may get a bit more tonight, but the forecasters have been wrong about just about everything so far, so I won't hold my breath.

 

Were weather forecasters palm-readers in a former life? They seem to hedge their bets in the same ways, these days, by not actually committing to anything!

another 4" today it started last night and is still coming down albeit very finely now ,looks like were staying in for a few more days yet

A roof well-covered with snow days after a fall may not mean good insulation either.

 

It might mean the heating has failed, and the occupants are incapacitated, perhaps huddled in overcoats and blankets, freezing and starving to death.

 

We check on our elderly neighbours daily and they check on us. (the couple one side are both over eighty but the old boy was round at 8.30 am to see if we needed any milk!)

yes you could be right ,weve noticed a few houses with snow free roofs then we realised they had extended into the loft so had less insulation in the roof.

when the windows go opaque you know somethings afoot.

the little old lady next door is ex india so a hardy soul and ofcourse anyone having lived through the war knows what difficult is so as long as they are fit struggle on we spotted a local old person getting a lift back home by a police car its the talk of the village but merely a lift ,i call round everyday to see if she needs anything but apart from a jar of coffee (and yesterday our first consignment of fresh milk in the shop) nothing.

the biggest problem were having is money a trip down the shop means a quids worth of sweeties

i was going to try and get to town today (the cul de sacs still snowbound but the road half clear in the village) but last nights load may have put that off for a while

i helped push an old couples car out of their drive by the shop i ended up face down in the snow the car went one way my feet another
