Believe it or not I've still got a few places left!

By the way, quite a few 8lb+ tench coming out, despite the cold NE winds.

There always seems to be some fear about approaching the Wingham waters that keeps folks from signing up. Several have even spoken about being totally clueless about how to fish natural lakes the size of Wingham.

 

Given the amount of expert help available and how willing other members & the Wingham staff are to help, the fear is baseless but none the less I think it is a factor.

 

Note to anyone who missed the rules - any member of the forums is eligible for this fish-in.

Steve, put him in a Conger swim :lol:

 

I think all the swims have eel hot spots :D But I might be wrong, last year I did mange to fish worms every night of the Fish-In and did not even get one eel all week end. My first Wingham blank as I failed to catch anything else either. Jedibond in the swim next to me put out worms before it got dark and had 2 back to back before having to change baits. So maybe they are very localised, but I would not bet on it.

Newt you might be right, as I guess it could be regarded as a hardish water especially when compared to the commerical waters that are so popular in the UK. But it would be dame hard to find a better looking fishery to blank at, and I've blanked at a large number of places :D

 

I've been reading back over some of the old Wingham threads and yes many people have been thrilled with great catches but the main thing you pick up from them is how many people are impressed with the natural look of the fishery, sun sets, sun rise, wildlife, plants, the warm welcome from Steve, Peggy and the bailiffs. My girlfriend who fishes has put her name down as I rave about the place so much. So even if you are daunted by the fishing as Newt has said Steve and the team will give you plenty of advice if you want it. Maybe you might blank and maybe you will catch that fish you have all ways dreamed about. But I doubt you will have fished to many places that look so good and feel so special.

 

Why did I write that, I am talking myself out of a place by letting you all know how nice Wingham is :doh:

Unfortunately i cant make the AN fishin i might pop down on the sunday to see everyone. I'm planning on going this weekend so i'll let you know how i get on.

 

 

PS does anyone need to borrow anything???

I can leave it in the club house and pick it when i go next.

Well Ive just got back from Wingham and as expected the cold weather and NE winds hasn't helped much.That said we still had a few Tench.I managed 6 the biggest at 8.13 another at 8 dead and the rest I didn't weigh.Despite the weather it was as all ways just good to be there.

 

Im off on holiday on the Sunday of the fish in (**** poor planning by myself!) but I will be over on the Saturday.Anyone who wants a hand/info just ask.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Wingham is a great place and would love to go every year. I think for alot of people its not the difficulty of the fishing but the distance to get there. I live more or less in the middle of the UK with good access to the motorway, but it is still a good 3 - 4 hours depending on traffic.

 

That might not sound alot of driving for a possible good days fishing but then consider peoples home lives, families, work commitments etc the 8+ hours traveling, packing of the tackle / bait & lack of sleep isnt ideal.

 

I really do hope to go again in the future as my last venture was a real pleasure. Good luck to all who are going and a thank you to Steve & co for giving us the opportunity of going. Its not every day you get to fish a water knowing you could hooking into 8lb+ tench or a 15lb+ bream in the same night.
