Which angler are you!?

Definitely 4

I am not oblivious to nature, and like to see the purple loosestrife a-striving as much as anyone. However, a new challenge is what really turns me on - like a species I have not caught before.

I enjoy the research in locating a new fish, and assessing how to best fish for it, devising method and tactics, and then the thrill of it gracing my net, (or for the stone loaches and bitterlings of this world, being swung to hand :) )

Trouble is, I am running out of UK freshwater species......does anyone know the whereabouts of a population of topmouth gudgeon ?

Except, that I always know what fish I am targeting. Sometimes I get the odd surprise though. Once I catch the first fish I relax and go with the flow.

Number 2 best describes me. I don't enjoy fishing noisy, busy, or ugly places, even if the fish are huge. It must be quiet, peaceful and natural.

As an addition to 2 though, what really gets me going is fishing for the unknown. I could never get excited about fishing a place where the fish have names for example, even if it was the most beautiful water and I had it all to myself. I like to try for fish that have probably never been caught before, and be only just good enough to catch them.

I love the process of finding somewhere, trying to work it out, making mistakes, learning from them, trying again, and eventually catching whatever it is the water has to offer. Sometimes that's big fish, sometimes it isn't, but it isn't that important. I also like to be selective when I am fishing for a particular species, so a fair bit of effort goes into putting off all the other species. I don't know why I am like that!

Once I feel like I've really cracked a venue/stretch/method/whatever, the enthusiasm dies down and I look for something else, even though continuing to fish there/like that would probably result in big fish. Sometimes that takes a season, sometimes several years, sometimes it never happens, and those are the very special places that you have a lifelong relationship with and just never get bored of :)

bit of both 1 and 2 for me, the surroundings are important, growing up in central london I've done more than my share of fishing "uninspriring" venues - city canals, park ponds and docks!

But the fish are equally important, I like a nice view, peace 'n quiet AND something worth catching in front of me :)

I'm more the number 2 type of angler. Most of my fishing is in rivers that are less than 100yards from the closest road or highway, wich really isn't fun in the long run. Yes, the angling could be good most of the sessions, but as soon as i've figured one stretch out i'm always on the hunt for another stretch - or even a secluded small forest lake in the hunt for specimens...

Hi all,

It seems to me there are different types of anglers.. which one are you, or closest to of the options below

1) The angler who just likes to be beside the water in natural beauty of the surroundings next to the trees and wildlife regardless of what or if they are going to catch

2) The angler who is searching for the specimen fish, but also searches for a water that gives them that natural surrounding feel as well

3) The angler who searches out the waters that will more than likely give them the big prize they are after, even if that means fishing a featureless water

4) Other (please specify)

I am sure there are plenty of other types of anglers, but just a thought....

I am between option 1 and option 2 (depending on my mood!)...

Cheers,

Stu....
