Yes, they can be fun on occasion.

Especially when the conversation starts with them imposing their beliefs on me.

We have Mormons around here. They're so cool....... :boxing:

Damn, you get all the fun. Mormons are the craziest of the crazies.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Not quite. I had two girls knock the door the other night telling me that if I let more bread into my life and especially if I embraced the soul cleansing qualities of brown bread, I could come closer to god.

Yes, it's bad.......

I absolutely detest christmas.

Christmas is rammed down our throats from as early as September.

Jesus was actually born in February and by the way and far from being the Son of God was just another religous fanatic of his era.

Jesus actually wanted to join the cult of John the Baptist before suddenly being proclaimed Messiah...saw that on a BBC documentary that was only ever aired once...

The celebration of Christmas and New Year are stolen from Paganism.

Christmas falls pretty damn close to the celebration of the winter solstice. New Year was Pagan and Roman.

The supposed true meaning of Christmas is now lost forever.

Christmas is just another way for businesses to peddle **** that in your right mind you would never purchase.

Christmas is a time when you have to pretend you like giving your money away.

Christmas is a time when you have to pretend you like your boss.

Santa Clause is a gimmick created by Coca Cola----Bull said over and over again rapidly becomes accepted as truth.

Christmas is just a way to make the miserable peasant feel happy and good about himself for 48 hours out of his miserable year.

Charles Dickens knew that Christmas was a loud of bunkum and balderdash.

Well I have three children....merry christmas... <_<<_<<_<

You don't necessarily have to believe in anything, other than that it's undeniably mid-winter. :D

Here in Holwell, West Tamar, Tasmania we are getting fifteen hours of daylight, the sun is beating down from near overhead at 1.12pm. The thermometer is registering 27 degrees C and doubtless will be higher by mid-afternoon. Celebrated the summer solstice two days ago with a mixed bag of Yellow-eyed Mullet, Silver Trevally, and Southern Sand Flathead.

Just had an ice-cold pre-prandial Fosters.

"Undeniably mid-winter" Bah ! Humbug !

There is a small boy that lives inside every man, unless the man kills him.

Yep, look at my avatar.

It seems that you don't need to be a misery guts to be an angler, but it helps. Were none of you lot ever children? Did you let the little boy inside you die?

It would appear so, what a bunch of Grinches. Maybe playing a game might cheer them up.

First the Jesus bit. If one is a Christian the actual date of Jesus' birthday does not matter. It is symbolic. How do you know that Jesus is even a historical figure? He is ONLY mentioned in the Bible, but nary a word in any other texts.

Secondly Santa Clause and Coca Cola. This is just not true, The only thing that Coca Cola did was dress him in red and Americanise him a bit, but Santa Claus, Sinterklaas is much older than a 1930s Coca Cola advert. If you were Dutch, Flemish, a Waloon or from the Nord Pas De Calais chances are that your kids would get presents on the 6th of December (St Nicolas' Day) as well as on the 25th of December.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

yes the red costume was cokacola i think the german was traditionally in green ,its just a party moved from the winter solstice celebrations as the church tended to take over such festivities or ban them

if it were a true religious ceremony why is it not on a jewish festival?

some jewish "months" are strange one celebrates japanese car making :D

as to being a time of ripping off you dont have to buy at the last moment, you don't have to buy at all or buy a year in advance in the sales when you only pay 5 times an items worth
